8.4/10 Very Good! (533 reviews)
It was a quiet but very outdated. In need of a complete overall. Used the pub on the first night for food and drinks but wasn't impressed. Long wait to be served but the staff were very polite. Did not rate the food. Having said that the breakfast was very good. Cooked fresh. It was a good price and you get what you pay for.

Hotel was fine but nothing special, not sure how it’s got 4*. Hairs in the bathroom and the air con didn’t work, view was also facing out to a wall. Room did have a fridge and a coffee machine and the bathroom’s fairly modern. Rooms could probably do with a revamp.

8.6/10 Excellent! (527 reviews)
I chose this property as it was directly on top of the bus station (we were going to see Black Sabbath in Birmingham, had coach tickets from Derby to Villa Park, and the pick up point was Derby bus station). There was no parking on site, but the secure parking on Bold Lane is between a 5 and 10 minute walk from the hotel. I can't fault anything about the hotel - it was clean, the room was a good size, all the usual things were provided - towels, shower gel, shampoo, tea and coffee. There was a fridge in our room (don't know whether this is standard in all the rooms).
All the staff that we had any dealings with - reception, bar staff, cleaners, dining room - without exception were brilliant. Friendly and helpful, you felt nothing was too much trouble. Special shout out to Bethany, the (for want of a better description) Maitre d' - when we went for breakfast, she said if we wanted anything, such as pancakes, that wasn't on the breakfast buffet, to just ask. She also came round topping up your fruit juice when she wasn't greeting customers.
The breakfast choice was excellent - there was a healthy option section, a hot buffet section, and a section with tea, coffee, cereal and fruit juices.
I can't really comment on the area around the property, as we didn't arrive until about 9pm on the Friday night, we were up and out of the hotel for 8.30am on the Saturday morning, back there at 1am Sunday morning and left to go home at 10.30am on Sunday.

9.2/10 Wonderful! (976 reviews)
Booked for 2 nights. In July. As we checked in we noticed someone checking out who was complaining about the poor Air Conditioning. The air con is limited a low of 19 degrees. Now in my opinion that seems too high, I would be expecting a maybe the ability to drop it to 16 or 17. I called down to reception and they stated nothing they could do as fixed to 19. I persisted and they eventually sent someone to the room who could feel the room temperature. The engineer stated that he would go to the main panel and sort it out. Guess what…..the Air Con did not appear to improve during the whole stay. The room was not serviced during our stay so we used damp towels for the most of the time. Paint was peeling off the ceiling above the bath so we needed to wash this out before we used it. In our opinion some the staff were a little surly so after their poor performance with air con and checkin. We decided that any comments would fall on deaf ears.
Some of the staff were very friendly and professional. The location is very good for the university and car parking in car park D is very convenient.
There is so many more options for hotels in this part of Manchester, we will probably try an alternative next time. This is obviously just out opinion and I am sure other guests have had a better experience.
