Great location right on Whyte Avenue! It’s close to the University of Alberta, with plenty of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops within walking distance. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Our room was clean and comfortable, although I would consider the accommodations more along the lines of a 3-star hotel. They offer both self-parking and valet, and the free buffet breakfast was a nice bonus. One thing to keep in mind is that Whyte Avenue can get pretty lively and loud at night. I thought it was very thoughtful that the hotel provides earplugs in the room for guests. Overall, a convenient and comfortable place to stay, especially if you’re visiting the university or want to be within walking distance of everything Whyte Avenue has to offer.

I recently stayed at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton,. I understand that the hotel is historic and quite old, &we expctd that going in. However, for a 4star hotel with such good reviews, our experience was unfortunately disappointing. The hotel itself is well maintained in some ways, &the room was generally clean, but the overall atmosphere was not very welcoming. When we first entered, the lobby felt gloomy and dark, and there was an unpleasant smell. Only one elevator was working during our stay, &it took quite a long time to arrive and get us to our floor. When we entered our room, it was also quite dark and had a strong carpet smell, almost as if the carpet had recently been washed but had not completely dried. The pillows looked clean, but they had an old smell. The blanket was clean and smelled like laundry soap, but unfortunately, it was very itchy &uncomfortable. There were also no toothbrushes provided, whch was inconvenient, esp after traveling a long distance. There was no complimentary bottled water either, so we had to purchase our own. Parking was also an additional cost, which was another inconvenience. For a hotel of this standard, I expectd at least some basic amenities and conveniences for guests. Overall, this stay was frustrating because we expected more from a 4star hotel, especially considering its reputation and reviews. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and considers improving these areas for future guests.
