Paid for a decent room, and have stayed in better hostels, at £644 for 3 nights you expect to be in a decent standard. Was eventually moved, and was like night and day with the two different rooms but the same class. The hotel is starting to look very tired, and needs a refresh especially the bathrooms.

Fabulous location in the middle of the royal mile. Good size rooms and AC that was sufficient. Surprised at how well all the buildings hold heat in. Bed was on the softer side but was fine for me. Clean, comfortable and close to everything.

Not the best stay considering it should be 5 star! I upgraded my room but the aircon wasn’t working and the bathroom towel rail would not switch off so the room was very warm! They did offer a fan! I did make them aware of these issues on departure but they didn’t seem to be very apologetic!

Very disappointed with our stay at The Grand. I’ve never left a negative review about a hotel before but I feel compelled to, particularly because the reply I gave directly to their own request for feedback has gone ignored. I booked two rooms; one for my Mum on her own and one for myself and my 8 year old daughter. I stay in about 20 different hotels a year and am fortunate to stay in some beautiful places but The Grand fell short for 5 stars. I would say this is no reflection on the team, who did their best to help. They’re a credit to the hotel and I feel for them having to handle the issues. One main reason I booked The Grand is because Expedia advertises it with a ‘family friendly pool’ as per screen shot. When we checked in we were told the spa is £30 per person (says included on Expedia) and that children can only use the pool for one hour a day; which we’d missed. I completely appreciate that kids shouldn’t go in spas; however it should not be advertised as a ‘family friendly’ pool and services which are chargeable should be clear. We would have stayed somewhere different. Of our two rooms, ours had a dirty bathroom, out of date biscuits and a TV not working. My Mum had to move rooms as the vent was so loud she couldn’t sleep. Breakfast we were told had an à la carte option (checked twice), so we decided to eat there to end up leaving when we were off buffet only in the restaurant. At reception told we could have à la carte again. Stressful all around. A shame.
