We had a very enjoyable stay overall. The views from the hotel are excellent and definitely one of its standout features. The food was consistently good, and the restaurant itself is very well maintained, making for a pleasant dining experience.
The drinks were fine, although the cocktails could be improved slightly. The pool area is on the smaller side, but still perfectly adequate for relaxing. One downside was the adults-only pool, which was the coldest I’ve ever experienced and not particularly enjoyable to use.
A small issue we noticed was that the maids were quite noisy early in the morning—there’s really no need for shouting when guests are still sleeping.
The hotel could benefit from a bit of refurbishment in places, and adding a gym would be a great improvement.
That said, despite a few minor drawbacks, we would return in the future.

A pleasant place, with friendly staff and good-quality food, that is let down by the truly desperate physical condition of some of the rooms. The grouting in the bathroom of the room we were initially given was black and ugly, and there were cracks where the sealant was coming away from the bath. We rejected it as unacceptable and were shown two further rooms that were far from pristine but not nearly as bad. How this place can be rated as five stars beats me. There are signs of underinvestment in maintenance all around the place, with crumbling and cracked paving etc. The state of the bathroom in the room we were allocated would disgrace a one-star hotel in most countries I’ve visited. Does the Tenerife tourism board not care about its reputation as a luxury destination? When was the last time it inspected Barcelo?
There are plenty of facilities (seven swimming pools for example) and activities, with a stage and nightly discos and shows, if you like that kind of Butlins-type atmosphere. We enjoyed our stay but I wouldn’t go back - this looks to me like a place that has been on a path of slow decline for some time. In the end, the (mostly) good service can’t make up for the lack of spending to keep the property in a condition that justifies its star rating.

I stayed at this hotel on a half-board basis and overall felt it was good value for money.
The food was buffet style. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, and at dinner there was always enough variety to find something to eat. The only downside was that some of the hot dishes could occasionally be a little lukewarm.
The complex itself is quite large, with several smaller pools as well as a bigger main pool. It’s also possible to walk from the hotel down to the beachfront, which is convenient if you want to eat out or explore the area.
The rooms include a small kitchen area with a fridge, which was really useful for keeping drinks and snacks. My room had a balcony, although it didn’t get much direct sunlight as it was north facing, so it wasn’t ideal for drying swimwear.
There is also a self-service laundry on site with two washers and two dryers, which was simple and convenient to use.
The staff were hardworking, always present around the complex, and helpful whenever needed.
There is also bicycle hire within the complex offering a great range of bikes. The staff there were very helpful, offering advice on various cycling routes around the area. They were professional, friendly, and seemed to be experienced cyclists themselves, which made it easy to get good local recommendations.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay and felt the hotel offered good value for the price
