The Royal Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"We always stay at the Royal Hotel if we are in WSM for the night. In terms of being in a central location it can't be beaten. It's a traditional and spacious hotel. The staff always go above and beyond to assist you. It's a beautiful, old building. We had a twin room and the bathroom was larger than my living room. Wonderful sea views. I miss the view already! Very highly recommended. Haven't tried the food sadly but it looks delicious!"

"An extremely quick and friendly welcome and check in, especially as we arrived around 10:30pm after a busy day out and about. Room was large and welcoming, nicely decorated and with three large opening windows for us to control air to the room and a required temperature. Breakfast was self serve and there was a good enough choice and it was a great start / set up for the day. Cleaning wise, extra attention needs to be made to this as I awoke to find one of my pillows looked like it had been trodden on / or driven over due to a muddy mark on it, there were items of rubbish from previous guests under chairs - hair band, make up brush - a strange red liquid on tiles in the bathroom and where someone had spilt a hot drink on one of the walls next to our breakfast table, this had not been cleaned off."

"Whole place could do with a really good deep clean. Rooms basically wiped over not really cleaned each day. vacuuming done one morning in restaurant whilst guests had breakfast. So was never going to have a proper clean. Tables sticky as sprayed and wiped with cloth, not wet cloth. Labels on pots mixed up one day so ended up putting coffee not hot water in cup. Breakfast quality varied each day. Bed not that comfortable. OK not great stay."

"The room was very difficult to find. The floors of the hotel were like a maze. You had to go to the second floor to come back up the corridor to get to the first floor. We got lost and took us a while to find the room. The receptionist did say it was confusing to find, so they are aware of it, would be helpful if they had someone to take you to your room as its not straight forward. We were very excited to try out the restaurant, but the food was a little disappointing and didn’t live up to our expectations. The food at the club was much better. The hours for the swimming pool was very convenient. The games on the lawn were entertaining and the grounds of the hotel were very pleasant. We had the family room, which was very tight for a family with teenagers and the view was sooo disappointing as we only had shrubs to look at in such gorgeous grounds. The parking is charged on a daily basis we didn’t quite understand why they charged for the parking as the hotel was on private grounds and the land was not shared. In our experience, hotels tend to charge when they are in city centres not out in the country. I had missed this when booking and it would have definitely deterred me had i have seen it before booking. Staff were very approachable and helpful with a welcoming smile on their face all the time."

"From the moment we were checked in by a very friendly and smiley Haz we found everything spotlessly clean. We had room service which was very fast and efficient (we collected it from the bar to save the £5 charge). Food was good. Beds were comfortable. We had everything we need for an overnight stay. "
