Incredible surroundings. Historic, yet modern. We loved the building, grounds, and ambiance. Affordable. Quiet. Beautiful. We were disappointed by the service staff. It seemed to us that they were all new and in training. Unsure of what to do or say. Our last evening we went to the restaurant to eat dinner. The menu was sparse and disinteresting. ...

Nice hotel bordering the river AvonWe spent four nights at the hotel, it was an excellent base from which to explore Salisbury and the surrounding area. The room was a good size with a door out to a small patio area with chairs. The staff we met were very helpful. I would certainly recommend this hotel if you are in the area.

Pocket Guide: Romantic Hotels Hotels in Wiltshire

Set in the beautiful, rural south-west of England, Wiltshire attracts flocks of holidaymakers all through the year, and with good reason. The wealth of natural beauty and prehistoric attractions make it an ideal place to get away from it all. The blend of rural retreats and bustling market towns makes it particularly popular with couples. From spa retreats to city centre hotels, there's no shortage of romantic hotels in Wiltshire.

Charming Salisbury

The medieval cathedral city of Salisbury is undoubtedly one of the highlights of this beautiful county. Lined with period buildings, the streets of Salisbury emanate an unmistakable charm. Couple that with the glut of excellent restaurants and it's easy to understand why the city's such a popular romantic destination.

For a couple's getaway, nothing could be more fitting than an intimate place to stay. Number 64 is a small bed and breakfast located in the heart of the city. In under 15 minutes, guests can find their way on foot to all the major attractions, including Salisbury Cathedral and the Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum.

Country Walks in Wiltshire

Wiltshire's countryside is one of its best features, luring in keen walkers from every corner of the globe. Couples keen to don their walking shoes and explore the rolling hills of Wiltshire and the North Wessex Downs have plenty of romantic hotels to choose from.

The Riverbarn Guest House isn't far outside of Salisbury, situated in pretty Fonthill Bishop, but it offers plenty of long and picturesque walks. The interior of this intimate guesthouse is beautifully decorated, and guests benefit from a wealth of facilities in their room.

Romantic Retreats

Not all couples who head to the Wiltshire countryside do so in search of fresh air and exercise. Equally inviting are the many hotels in Wiltshire that offer extensive spa treatments and relaxation facilities.

The Manor House Hotel and Golf Club is a beautiful property set in idyllic grounds in Castle Combe. In addition to the golf course, guests can also use the on-site tennis courts.

The elegant Lucknam Park in Chippenham offers all the grandeur of Manor House, with the addition of a fully-featured spa and indoor swimming pool - perfect for relaxing with a loved one.
