"We were excited about this hotel given the pictures and description on Hotels.com. On arrival at 9pm, having had difficulty getting into the hotel (the doors were locked and closed and the place looked shut! There’s also another part to the hotel across the road which looked unwelcoming, we tried there too in case there was another reception) eventually someone came to the door, unlocked and removed the obstacles behind the door to allow us to enter. He then checked us in. The hotel is dowdy and the room was dark, dingy and dated. Not at all what we expected. The ‘feel’ of the place and the area put us on edge, as we are not familiar the locale. We immediately decided to check out and booked another hotel, even though we would lose our money on this one. The hotel we moved to (the Lindgart) was much nicer and welcoming (and the reception was open!) The guy on reception did try to help and offer us another room, but unless he was going to relocate the hotel, decorate and refurbish, there’s not much he could do to put this right. I’d say it’s a fine hotel for contractors, but not quite the romantic getaway the pictures would have you believe. "

"The Mercure is ideally situated by old Hamelin, within a five minute walk you're in the heart of the old town. The hotel isn't a new build but has been well maintained. The is a small parking place at the front of the hotel for approximately a dozen cars. We arrived late evening and it was full so parked in instead in the underground parking for the town hall, which has a direct exit for the hotel and costs €8.50 and via the hotel. The breakfast offering is a wide selection from continental, German, and cooked with a great selection of coffee, teas and quality juices. Although breakfast is included automatically, it shouldn't be missed. We were travelling as a family with two children aged 10 and 7, and it was easy to cater for them. Would also recommend Cafe Am Ring across the park to the hotel and we ate well there too."

"Very impressive hotel with expansive and well appointed rooms. Could only be closer to station if it were in it. Some may find this a slight negative with a room on the station side as the platform announcements are audible and frequent. Get the buffet breakfast, it is worth every euro! "

"We stayed at the Brenner for a week recently , using it as a base to visit our son and his partner . The location is perfect , not too far from the autobahn, City Centre and the tram stop at Sieker Mitte being a couple of hundred metres away. We found the hotel to be very clean and well presented with friendly and very efficient staff who made our stay such an enjoyable one. The Restraunt is very good too, breakfast offers the usual Continental array of choices . The rooms are very spacious , we stayed in a quad and there was plenty of space for the three of us. I would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting a good solid base to start and end your day . "

"We stayed one night here and it served our needs very well. Our room was quite small, but had everything we needed for the night. (There was a larger room option available but I chose this one to save a little money since we weren't there long.) The location is great for an easy walk to everything in Bielefeld city center, or about 10-15 min to Sparrenberg Castle and the beautiful gardens next to it. The service was excellent, with one particularly helpful and friendly host whose name I unfortunately didn't get. The hotel has parking below for an additional 15 euros, which was very convenient. All in all, a great place to stay in this area. I would return or recommend it. "

"Quiet, secluded old nostalgia style hotel which might not be to everyone’s taste, but I I personally found it quite charming. The restaurant is beautiful and the breakfast plentiful. Every member of staff is really helpful and efficient. Will definitely go back."
