Wonderful hotel in regards to cleanliness, staff. Spectacular views but this location doesn’t work unless you have a car. 25 minutes walking on a narrow, curvy road. Breakfast is great and included. We stayed in April so is a low season for this area. I wish they would offer a bar and at least some antipasto since there are no restaurants near by. Other than that is a wonderful place. Managment helpful and cordial.

An incredibly beautiful place to stay at a reasonable price which somewhat trumps the negative aspects. The staff were helpful and friendly. As others have mentioned the owners rules are quite different from every other hotel ever in the fact that taking in food to your room or bringing food to the hotel is quite frowned upon. It appears he has had some PTSD in the past due to ants and is now quite on top of it. You definitely get the vibe that he is quite controlling of his staff. We walked to and from the town centre of Meta multiple times a day but it is certainly not for the faint of heart as it’s a trek and the “sidewalk” has seen better days. Unless you’re trying to get 20k steps in a day plan for a rental car or taxis which are pricey given the short distance.

Most beautiful views from terrace! Not walkable to train station or any restaurants other than hotel restaurant, but manager will arrange for taxi services as needed. Hotel very dated with tiny showers, but the views make up for it.

Breakfast was very poor, no restaurant , no bar, the owner was rude. The location was ok as you get a nice view from there, but that’s it really. You have a few things in the mini bar in the room, but they cost a fortune so better to get something from the shop. The check in is very late. We arrived quite early there so we had to wait a while. The rooms are clean, but old and very noisy. Our room was positioned right next to the breakfast area. Sorry, but not really reccommend it. The only nice person there was a young man from the reception…

We absolutely loved our stay! The view was amazing and the hotel staff was wonderful. We walked to the Meta train station to access the tourist destinations by train. If you have a car there is parking. Great value and delicious breakfast.

Stayed in 3 hotels in Campania province and Mega mare was worse by a mile. Cons: - The room design is wooden, old fashioned and feels haunted by ghosts some people like that. - the double bed barely holds, makes lots of noise and is extremely springy. - The hotel owner is rude and entitled. Actually ignores you on purpose when asking him a question while he is in the reception alone. He screamed at us for ordering food to the hotel. I understand that there's a policy against this but; - the hotel has nothing to offer other than bad sandwiches and there's nothing around the hotel because it's in the middle of nowhere. The angry hotel manager/owner treating us like his employees should've handled this differently as I saw 3 more guests ordering and getting a similar treatment. He said the reason for not allowing orders is because of ants. Why aren't you paying for exterminator?? Trying the cut costs?? - The alcohol is watered down. We drank 3 cocktails.. seriously there's no alcohol in it. - There are lots of ants in the balcony (even before we got there) which can get into the room if the doors aren't closed - The breakfast is very poor. Hard jam cookies, Eggs, ham and cheese We got there once an hour before breakfast closed and the eggs were gone and the breakfast buffet table was a mess. Pros: - The Staff other the hotel owner are very nice I feel sorry for them as they have to deal with this manager/owner guy on a daily basis. - The view from the room is quite nice

The rooms are nice, great views of the sea. The location is not great, buses are limited and you need to walk to bus stops. We asked the hotel to book us a taxi and instead a woman turned up in her car in which was not a taxi, but still charged us €20 for a 10 minute drive to the station which I thought was ridiculous. Think the staff are quite rude and unhelpful also. No irons, kettles or any basic amenities you’d expect in a hotel. Pool also needs a good clean. Breakfast is also very basic and things are left out all day and night.

I inform you that the location of the hotel is indicated during the booking, there are no buses as it is on the state road.A person has been called for the transfer who helps us with the clients financiallyDeclare that the staff are rude and unhelpful and very unfair of you, always being available.The pool was opened after the bad weather, but there were leaves blown in by the wind.There is no iron in the room, but it can be requested at reception, there is no kettle in the room but you could ask for hot water at the bar.Breakfast has been served for 30 years and we have never had any problems

First off - the hotel and view/scenery is beautiful. But there are a few negatives about this hotel that I wish I knew prior to booking. 1. It is very far away from Sorrento. Taxis are very expensive, expect to pay around 20 euros to be taken to the nearest train station. Your other alternative is to walk down the side of the highway for 25 mins to the train station, which is incredibly unsafe. There is virtually No sidewalk. 2. No wifi in the rooms. You need to go out on your balcony to have access to the wifi. 3. No sound barrier between rooms. 4. Manager does not allow you to bring food in from other restaurants back to your room. He expects you to order food from his restaurant.

We thanked out lucky stars that we selected this hotel so far away from the crowds. We had no complaints as the hotel was exactly as advertised. It’s a bit old fashioned but make sure you request a room on the upper floors as on the bottom floor trees obscure the view. Marvellous view, clean and quiet pool, delightful staff. Limited snack options could be improved. You definitely need a car.

If you are planning to stay at this Hotel make sure you have transportation. They don’t provide help for you to move around, next town about 2 miles, something to eat about 1.5 miles through a very busy and dark road that don’t have sidewalk or lights. The Hotel said no available taxis because of traffic. Terrible

Hotel was well kept and staff were helpful and friendly. Pool area was great and the hotel has a decent selection of food for breakfast. Only downsides are that it only offers breakfast and walking anywhere from the property can be a hassle as it’s quite isolated on the hillside. The road is also busy and quite dangerous to walk along. The views you get from the location are amazing though and if you have a car or are willing to taxi back and forth, there are quite a few restaurants and shops within a few kilometres.

Short version: we absolutely loved our stay. Words and photos absolutely cannot do justice to how beautiful the hotel and surrounding area are. The view from the bedrooms, terrace, and pool area is breathtaking, and the atmosphere manages to capture both serenity and the enchanting drama of the Amalfi coastline. I wanted to write this bit of the review specifically for fellow Brits, because I feel like there are certain things that we've come to expect as standard in hotels, the absence of which might undermine your enjoyment of this hotel if not forewarned. Firstly, there's no kettle in the rooms, so making yourself a cup of tea after check-in or in the morning is not possible. Secondly, there's also no restaurant on site - although there are several within a 20-30 minute walk - though the path is extremely narrow and you have to cross the very busy road to reach it. There are no buses available into nearby towns, so your options are walking, taxi (very, very expensive) or hiring a car/scooter. All in all, we loved this hotel and would happily recommend it. I do feel like either intrepid explorer types or seasoned drivers in Italy would cope best with the remote location, but as long as you're aware of those limitations, this hotel is unparalleled in the area for its outstanding beauty, wonderful service, and general tranquility. We will definitely return!

My main criticism of the hotel, was the lack of wifi in the rooms. Wifi was generally restricted to the lobby, and intermittent in my room which was relatively close to the lobby. As I was booking sightseeing tickets, and trying to charge devices, I had to go back and forth between the lobby and my room numerous times. The room was nice, included a bidet and fridge, and the views of the bay from the hotel were very excellent. If you don't have a car, or rent a scooter (I couldn't, as they required an International Driving Permit, which I didn't know I needed, and wasn't willing to pay the equivalent of almost a day's rental fee to acquire digitally), getting to/from the hotel to the train station or other local destinations was a challenge. It was a challenging walk to the local bus stop, about 15 minutes away, as the sidewalks are very narrow, and overgrown in many places, which forces you to step on to the busy road to get by. Taxis were challenging to find in town. I was at Bleu Village near the Meta station, and the hotel clerk there couldn't help me get a taxi as there was no taxi service in Meta. I did a lot of walking, and often felt trapped at the hotel. A shuttle service to/from town would have been great.

We loved our view! The hotel itself has a few odd rules the pool has very limited hours and the times you’d love to be in there it is closed, like sunset for example, no food or drinking in your room, you have to leave your room key there when you leave and no extra towels ect, ect... We loved our time in Sorrento regardless, but it’s nice to know what to expect!

Really enjoyed the amazing view! The pool and each room had their own balcony view over looking the sea and Sorento. 20 min drive to Sorento. Had that old time hotel charm to the place. Pool opens a little late (11:15 am) and not all chairs have umbrellas. It is open an hour later than most pools in the area till 7 pm.

The views from this hotel are incredible! We got to watch the most beautiful sunset from our balcony every night! The rooms were very spacious and kept very clean. The pool was lovely, again with amazing views however there are few umbrellas so if you’re looking for some shade whilst sunbathing you need to be the first one at the pool. Although, don’t rush to get up early as the pool doesn’t open until 11:15. The hotel had free parking and although there isn’t much near the hotel it is only a 15 minute drive into the main area in sorrento where you can shop, get food and get the ferry/boat to capri and Amalfi. The breakfast was lacking a bit but I would defiantly recommend this hotel as everything else was incredible!

DO NOT stay here if you don’t have a car or vespa. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere. Taxis do not want to take you there. The owner is a communist. You have to leave the room key before leaving. That’s ridiculous. They turned off the AC when you are not there and sometimes they forget to turn it back on when you come back. As a consequence the room is a sauna when you enter. Overall this has been my worst experience ever.

The customer knows the hotel's location from the first moment, and knows that being on the state road, a car or scooter is needed.Maybe you don't know the difference between a communist and a manager who wants to enforce the hotel rules, as all hotels leave the keys to know if the customer is in the hotel or not

the hotel is very dated in its decor, but adequate. The swimming pool is in a lovely spot although people seemed to gather the sun umbrellas all in one spot leaving the rest of us without any shade. Breakfast and snacks were the only meals. the waitress Angela worked constantly and always smiling, Thankyou. Could be noisy at night with guests talking quite loudly. But its in a beautiful location and I would stay there again.

The balcony views are incredible. The staff is very nice and helpful and their little happy hour on the veranda was great. The only disadvantage to this property is its location--if you don't have a car, it is very inconvenient to eat or visit Sorrento. This was my error--I should have checked more closely on the map. I'll admit, the balcony view picture grabbed me, but we had several really long walks to try to get dinner or to the train, so would recommend you rent a car when staying here.

The views are unforgettable here at Mega Mare. Our stay was the first of many to come. The staff made us feel like we were home and attended to all of our needs. A lovely place to stay, with astounding views from the room's own balcony. Management and staff are very helpful and pleasant. I stayed three relaxing nights but any longer and I would have needed to hire a car. The hotel is about a kilometre from the centre of Meta and while walkable if you are reasonably fit the pavement runs out in places so you're quite relieved when you complete the walk in and out of town. In summary a real 'find' for a few nights in you're coming by car.

Pros: amazing views, great breakfast staff, clean rooms, free parking. Cons: pool closed, common areas closed ( except small lobby), restaurant closed ( except for continent breakfast). Nearest place to eat 20 minutes by car in Sorrento. Summary: Desk staff informed us restaurant was closed and admonished us for bringing food back for dinner and sitting outside to eat, because they opened the restaurant that day and had two items on the menu, a sandwich panini and a hot dog. They told us to go eat in our room. Afterward, Mariano, manager was somewhat apologetic and gave us a wine bottle as we left the hotel after a five day stay.

Great hotel if you have a car and you're on vacation. Breathtaking views from your room and patios. Good parking area and overall nice. Not so good if you don't have a car and need internet for work. No internet in the rooms, only in lobby. And no food options (they didn't even order food for us to take to our room). Its walkable to a train station in the city of Meta, but beware the walk back is steep uphill and for the most part you have to literally walk on the highway (not a city block walk). The staff are kind of accomodating, depends on who you talk to.

Great place and location away from the city with amazing views! Staff was very attentive and courteous. The property is older but has a warm charming feel. Rooms are small but cozy and it is quite an experience to stay on the edge of a cliff! Great breakfast with good options and helpful staff. We originally booked for one night, but liked it so much we extended and stayed three nights!

Just returned from hotel Mega Mare staying 5 nights. Hotel was situated in a beautiful location and was quiet and peaceful. The views from my balcony were stunning, even better than I had hoped for! I don't drive but was able to walk down to the local train station in approx 20 mins to get around. The owner Mariano kindly gave me a lift the first day when he saw I looked a bit lost! Mariano gave good advice and was very helpful and friendly. His team including Luigi also made me feel welcome and did a great job. The breakfast was plentiful and they served delicious coffee! The hotel was very charming and traditional which made my stay in Italy all the more lovely and memorable. Thank you for your hospitality Mariano. I look forward to staying at your hotel again in the future.

All staff very Friendly, location really good and not within the busy streets of sorrento ideal if you have a car, sea view rooms perfect, breakfast options could be better, nothing hot available apart from drinks but it is Italy after all, would certainly stay in this hotel again.

Hotel Mega Mare is a classic place to stay where the view from each room of the coastline into Sorrento is breathtaking. The hotel is stuck in time which makes it so charming. Great breakfast and parking included. Can't beat that on the coast.
