The city centre is quite compact, with the Plaza de Armas being the central point, surrounded by the cathedral, shops, and restaurants. The main street, Jirón Lima, is a pedestrian-friendly thoroughfare with many eateries and souvenir shops. For couples looking for a comfortable base with easy access to lake excursions, Puno's waterfront hotels are an excellent choice. Many hotels offer views of the lake and are within walking distance of the main port where boat tours depart.
