Hidden along a short track this little oasis is an absolute gem. Welcoming owners, thoughtfully furnished room, peaceful surroundings, and situated in a lovely part of Yorkshire. What more needs to be said?

Having eaten here a few years back, I was determined to return to stay! This is not a cheap place, and the pricing structure seems overly complicated, but the rooms are gorgeous and the spa facilities are excellent.

The location is a little out of the way from Durham, but our experience there was wonderful, the room was very comfortable and clean, staff was helpful in every way. We felt instantly as if we were home.

Hotel is great if you have a dog and also if you need to arrive at unsociable hours. Rooms perfectly adequate and clean, the only problem we had was the heating was blasting out in our room when we arrived and it took so long to disapate that we could not sleep and the poor dog was panting and very uncomfortable. I would still use the hotel again.

Generally excellent but on a few occasions once sat down in a restaurant we seemed to disappear and had to grab people to get drinks, menus etc.

Fantastic staff; welcoming and helpful as ever. Location is excellent for my / our purposes both family business and pleasure? No reception pack in room so couldn't log in wifi. Wasn't worth it when we did. Food good if pricey for out of town motel. Beers too cold! Daft with bitters to chiil them. Decidedly getting dated in rooms and general appearance of the hotel. Needs a general refurb. Darkness seems to be the colour scheme; lights and window didn't really brighten room up. Returning to staff, lovely reception folk, bar & dining staff.

The staff are professional and friendly and couldn't be more helpful. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the antique furniture fits with the theme. Breakfast is in the main house in a very nice dining room overlooking the gardens. However dinner is in a pub/ old barn place behind the main building. Not as stylish or 4 star. The courtyard between the barn and hotel is very busy and noisy and we had to negotiate small children running around playing football around the outside tables. Overall we would stay here again.
