Mosman Travel Guide

Sydney
Mosman showing a bay or harbour, a high-rise building and a city
Visit one of Sydney’s most desirable areas, a delightful suburb that combines beautiful bays and nature walks with upscale shopping and dining.

Situated on the lower north shore of Sydney Harbour, Mosman has a clutch of attractive bays and beaches. One of Sydney's wealthiest neighbourhoods is also known for its bush and coastal walks, gorgeous harbour views, zoo, national park and upmarket shopping and dining.

Mosman is a great place to come to enjoy the outdoors. During the hot weather, spend a day swimming and sunbathing at Balmoral Beach. If you want to miss the summer crowds that flock here, a short walk northward brings you to the sheltered and quieter Chinamans Beach. For snorkelling and scuba diving, head to Chowder Bay.

Stretch your legs with a coastal or bush walk. One of the best routes is the path from Headland Park to Taronga. It passes through bushland and past historic military sites and has fabulous views across the harbour to the opera house. The Sydney Harbour National Park also features an extensive network of paths, perfect for joggers and walkers. During your stroll, you may come across native wildlife, such as water rats, lizards and kestrel.

For guaranteed glimpses of animals, go to Taronga Zoo. See koalas, Tasmanian devils and other native Australian wildlife as well as exotic animals, such as snow leopards and red pandas. Attend keeper talks and try the high ropes course through the trees.

Mosman is also a popular shopping destination. Treat yourself to something special from the boutique stores of Military Road and its surrounding streets. Browse for fashion, antiques and accessories for the home. Finish your day with a delicious meal and a drink in one of Mosman’s trendy wine bars.

Great rail, road and ferry links to the rest of Sydney make Mosman an easy place to visit for the day. Get around on foot or by taking the free community bus that serves the area. If you want to extend your stay in one of Sydney’s premier suburbs, there is a number of accommodation options, including hotels and apartments.
