Dublin is on many people’s lists of places they haveto visit but there’s more to the area than the history, bars and shops of itscity centre. Just a little way northeast of the city lies the picturesquecoastal town of Sutton. Perched on the beautifulDublin Bay, Sutton has the small town Irish charmthat will really help you enjoy a relaxing break.

Natural Beauty

Boasting a rugged coastline and wonderful beaches, youfeel a million miles away from Dublin, even if in reality it is within easystriking distance. In the heart of scenic splendour you can discover worldrenowned golf courses, historic castles and wildfowl reserves, but there arealso the warm welcome of local bars and restaurants, centred around theSutton Cross area of town, to return hometo.

Coastal Sutton

Sutton is a scenicresidential suburb at the base of the Howth Peninsula surrounded by manybeaches. The Burrow Beach, to the north of thetown, boasts fine views of Ireland's Eye and, on a clear day, of Lambay Islandfurther up the coast.

Golf in Sutton

Sutton is a golf lover’sdestination: it has its very own course overlooking the beautiful Dublin Bay,and, for a real touch of sporting glamour, the PortmarnockGolf Course course is just north of the town.

Sutton Cross

Sutton Cross is wheremost of the bars, shops and restaurants are, and local seafood is a realspeciality here. There are plenty of traditional Irish pubs, away from the busycity centre streets, where you can relax and enjoy a quiet drink.

Staying in Sutton

You’ll find a number of hotels that will fit anybudget – and even a refurbished Martello Tower for those who want accommodationwith a difference. These towers were built by the British army along Ireland’seastern coast, concentrated mainly around Dublin Bay, as defensive forts in the19th century.

Nature lovers will be attracted to the wildfowlreserve that is located just north of the town in the Baldoyle Estuary. Thiswetland area provides a natural habitat for a huge variety of seabirds andother flora and fauna.

Sutton Festivals

As well as the countless attractions in the citycentre, lovers of culture should note that the Howth MidsummerArts and Literature Festival takes place just down the coastalroad at the start of June. And the end of April welcomes one of Ireland’sbiggest food festivals, the Dublin Bay PrawnFestival, and is a gastronomical delight.
