I keep returning because of the Sahid's convenient location next to Stasiun Gubeng (especially if you plan to take 7:00 am train to Malang). You can walk to the station in 3 minutes. The Sahid is also only a 5 minute walk to Plaza Surabaya, and only about 20 minutes walk from the busy city center of Tunjungan. However, the Sahid is 30 years old and shows its age. Budget tourists might be more satisfied with this hotel than business travelers. The staff do their best to keep guests happy, which means jumping over some hurdles. The hotel was seemed fully booked during my stay. Large groups of locals congregated in the halls, smoking and talking. Also, the hotels.com website states that the Sahid has a fitness center, a claim that should be removed. The "fitness center" is a small and smelly room in the basement with a 30-year old broken stationary bicycle. This was all rather annoying. However, I must add that when I made a complaint, the hotel staff turned did their utmost to make me happy. My compliments to the staff for making my stay more pleasant! By the way, the location is excellent. Next door to Stasiun Gubeng.
