Stolzenfels Castle is a glorious medieval fortress secluded in a dense forest next to the Rhine River. This ruined 13th-century castle was rebuilt in the 1800s as a Gothic-style masterpiece with a tall central tower. There is a fee to enter the castle. Prices are discounted for kids. The site is open to the public daily from morning until late afternoon Tuesday through Sunday from March through October and on weekends during February and November. Guided tours in German are available, with a guidebook in English.
Stolzenfels Castle is 4 miles (7 kilometres) south of the centre of Koblenz. Drive or take a bus south along the western bank of the Rhine River to get here. Visit other nearby landmarks, such as the Burg Lahneck castle and the Koblenz Rhein-Mosel-Halle.
