It has so much more character than some of the soulless hotels I have stayed at in the area. It is well located for the town center and the cathedral. The rooms are generally well presented although, because each is different, some are nicer than others. My personal favourite is St Michael's. The rooms are always clean and the beds are super comfy. Parking is never an issue despite being so close to the center of town. The location was ideal, being a stone's throw from the high street. Check in was very easy, and the ambience of the place was wonderful. However, we were really disappointed at the facilities in the kitchen area. It was described as being self catering, but the microwave wouldn't work and there were no pans to allow for cooking on the oven rings. Also, we found the bed in the St Albans room to be very uncomfortable, and the noise from the Cathedral bells chiming on the night along with the traffic on the road made for a disturbed nights sleep. Lumpy bed Really nice apartment set in a lovely building. The room was spacious and well equipped with a small fridge and tea and coffee making facilities in the room. There was a shared kitchen also which was well equipped. Rooms were comfortable and modern. Had a mini fridge in each room (which is rare), and access to a shared kitchen area for cooking etc. which was handy. Could do with some facial tissues in the room. Other than that, the check in/out process was contact-free and fuss-free.
