Coral Sands Resorts by Palmera

"The rental was nearly perfect for our family get away. We had a toddler and two infants, and as you can imagine, three bedrooms were great! We even had up to six adults and an additional two kids over for the day and we did not feel cramped at all. The location was excellent - a half mile from the beach, close to shopping and a children's museum. We didn't have to put the kids in the car the entire stay. The pool was clean and truly great for our family. The babies even napped poolside a bit. We didn't participate on the resort activities, but the check in process was smooth and we were able to easily enter our room. My complaints are somewhat minor and has to do with cleanliness - the master bathroom ceiling had mold and the baseboards and nooks and crannies were in need of better dusting. We did have some trouble with the dining table since the chairs didn't actually fit the table, but again very minor. The guest service was excellent and all instructions were super clear starting at booking. Final thought - WE WILL BOOK AGAIN!!"

Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island

8/10 Good

"The resort is beautiful. It’s on the ocean with one adult pool and a family/children’s pool. We ate at the main restaurant twice and it was probably a seven out of 10. Very nice weight staff though. The pool bar actually had excellent food in a beautiful setting. The access to the beach was very good and very scenic. Unfortunately, we had problems every day with our room key being demagnetized, and after three days, I asked to be switched to a different room which they did, and gave us a nicer view, but it wasn’t clean. The bathroom tub had someone else’s hair in it, and the water wouldn’t go down in the tub. Maintenance came up the next morning and snaked the tub, only to throw the mess into the toilet and not even flush it. It was disgusting. Then for the rest of the week, our sink in the bathroom was clogged, obviously from all the hair that was flushed down the toilet. Our phone from day one had a red message light that blinked constantly. We asked the front desk to help and they sent up a man who said he couldn’t get the red light off. He didn’t know how and that the phones don’t work because they were supposed to be upgraded soon. Then we had to get a separate man upstairs to reset our safe that didn’t work. The maids did clean the sheets and do the towels, fine, but any extra cleaning on floor ceilings or rugs wasn’t seen. I feel like it was off-season and perhaps short staffed. Cleanliness, low rating, resort itself, beautiful."

Beach House Resort Hilton Head

10/10 Excellent

"The beach was spectacular! Walk right from your room! But also the pool was lovely, spent so much time there. No need to leave the resort, everything we needed. Al’s had the best iced coffee we have ever had, The Porch makes a divine breakfast, we will remember the biscuits for the rest of our lives! The staff is so kind and helpful. Above and beyond in every single interaction! We felt welcomed and appreciated. We did not want to leave! But we will be back!"

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to go to Shelter Cove?

For most visitors, the best time to go to Shelter Cove is during the spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) months.

These periods offer pleasant weather, with warm but not excessively hot temperatures, making it ideal for outdoor activities like cycling, golfing, and enjoying the marina. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer season, allowing for a more relaxed experience. The water is still warm enough for swimming in early autumn, and the spring brings blooming flowers.

Families often find early June or late August to be a good compromise. While these are technically part of the summer, they fall just outside the busiest weeks, offering slightly smaller crowds and often better value on accommodation, while still providing plenty of sunshine and warm water for beach days and watersports.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape might prefer late autumn or early spring. The cooler temperatures are superb for long walks along the coastline or exploring the local shops and restaurants without the hustle and bustle of peak season.
