"Our stay at the Van Der Valk was fine. It is too far from the inner city so travel expenses were higher. My only complaint was that me and my friend took an $100 baking class and the staff threw it away when they cleaned our room. The food was in a bag on top of our table no where near the trash. The staff did NOTHING to help solve this, even though they told me they would contact me. Since they ignored me, and pretty much acted like it didn’t matter, as well as the location, I would spend my...

"A reasonable location; close to the train station but a bit of a walk from the centre of town. Hotel was clean and rooms were comfortable and generous size. great bathroom with separate bath and shower. evening buffet is excellent value with quality food and drink. would recommend cons: poor air con so room was too hot"

"For some reason my room card (room 413) wouldn't work on the 3rd evening, which was a problem as it was after 10.30 in the evening, and i was a single 69 year old traveller. I returned to reception and the card was reset, i returned again to the 4th floor to find it still wasn't working. A member of staff then escorted me to the access door on the 4th floor to ensure it worked the 3rd time."

"Superb reception staff, but breakfast staff were a bit aloof and grumpy. Room service staff did not carry out two requests correctly. Beds were poorly made up. No female sanitary bags were provided. Breakfasts were well laid out and gave a lot of choice, but cooked items were not hot, and the plates were cold. The hotel itself was a very pleasant place to stay."
