"This property did a lot of things right.....freshly painted, very nice new towels and sheets and pillows, good mattresses, nice size fridge and freezer space and microwave, updated lights and faucets in the bathrooms, air conditioning, good size TV, nice outdoor seating area, with a pretty view. They just need a couple updates....the retro sink, tile and shower are cool but need regrouting and tub needs resurfacing. The furniture is pretty old and there is nowhere, except the floor to put suitcases. The air conditioner works but is pretty loud. Most of the flooring looks updated but could use a better cleaning. Coffee maker works great but, since they don't service the rooms every day, could use a bigger stock of coffee. I think for the area, this is a very good option. Not upscale, but still does a lot right and offers the option of a community use kitchen, which can help a lot with cost of eating out. On-site managers seem very conscientious and are very friendly, as well."
"I made a reservation for 1 night, less than 20 minutes later I had to cancel due to a car accident, and couldn’t make it. They refused my refund and pocketed $280 and I never even spent the night."
"Booked for three nights but had to leave the first day itself due to safety and cleanliness concerns. There were multiple snakes roaming around the tent area and a strong odor from what appeared to be a dead animal near the kitchen. The tent’s mosquito net had several holes, and there were already flying insects inside the tent upon arrival. The fan was not enough to cool down the tent.
One of the amenities that influenced my decision to book was the sauna, but it was not functioning during my stay. This was not disclosed before arrival, which was disappointing given the cost of the reservation.
As a result, I left the property and had to find alternative accommodations. The experience ultimately cost me $1,000, in addition to the alternative hotel charges, inconvenience, and stress of securing another place to stay on short notice.
I have stayed at many similar properties and understand that outdoor accommodations come with some exposure to nature. My expectations were reasonable: a well-maintained and accurately represented property. Unfortunately, this stay did not meet those expectations and I did not find it to be worth the price. I found the interaction with the owner to be somewhat condescending. I also noticed that the owner responds to negative reviews with lengthy replies aimed at disputing guests’ experiences rather than addressing the concerns. Unfortunately, this did not leave me feeling that guest feedback was taken seriously."
Charming House Inside the Gate of Sequoia National Park
10/10 Excellent
"Stayed 2 nights with a crew of 7. It's a great home for a beautiful sunrise view, porch sitting, feeding a crew and getting early jump on the park. Easy checkin/check out and good communication with host. We had a great stay."
"Perfect location on the Kaweah River, rapids surging right below the restaurant/deck. Small, independent run hotel from a bygone era...a little long in the tooth but a very pleasant stay. Great staff, great bar, restaurant really does well and the food is excellent. Prices for rooms and the restaurant are pretty high, but understandably given the limited season.
Would I ever stay there again? YES...I really enjoyed the place, the food, and the staff."
