Burn Hall Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"The staff were absolutely lovely and very helpful. The room was good and clean, but the shower was a real problem… you couldn’t switch the mixer back to the bath, so had to run a bath from the showerhead. On arrival the bathroom contained 2 scrag-end rolls of toilet tissue and the toiletry bottles were dolls-house size. When we asked for the room to be serviced, they didn’t do the bed, which we had made up neat enough, but room service normally redoes it to immaculate standard! Dinner was nice, but a very limited menu. Breakfast was very good, with two notable exceptions: the coffee was extremely poor and weak. And the fruit juices (both apple and orange) were clearly watered down to half strength."

"The room was immaculate and the staff very attentive. The breakfast was amazing, with so much choice, and the bar was a lovely, relaxing area with very helpful bar staff. Our afternoon tea for two was delicious and very refined. We also loved the Agatha Christie connection to the hotel and it was lovely to see other guests dressed up in Agatha Christie era outfits. The things that were a slight negative were the lift, which was incredibly slow and there was a lack of plug sockets in the room..... and I'd forgotten to pack the multi plug extension I usually take! But all in all, we absolutely loved our stay."

"The location was good. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The bathroom was dated and could do with being freshened up. The hotel itself had no atmosphere it always empty in the bar area so it didn't tempt us into wanting to stay for food or drinks. The reception staff were helpful. Overall we had a great weekend break. Harrogate is a lovely place."

Hollins Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf

"Hollins Hall is a beautiful property and we have stayed there a few times in the past. The grounds are well maintained and the hotel offers a bar and restaurant. Our room was clean, but basic and with the usual tea and coffee options. There was no bottled water provided, which would have been appreciated, and no refrigerator. I thought the bathroom amenities were somewhat lacking compared to other hotels, but we managed with what was there. We checked out early in the morning, so I can't comment on breakfast. We did not used any of the on site facilities because we were in the area for a funeral. Hollins Hall is special in it's secluded location, and I would recommend choosing a room that has all the options you require for your stay."

"Surprisingly quiet for a motorway stop-off. Bed was reasonably comfortable and the front staff were nice. Shame that the parking was extra, can’t imagine who doesn’t drive there. We had a drink in the bar and the white wine was a little ropey but overall a good place to break up a long journey."
