About this property
Luxury home on 400 Acre Ranch
Custom built English Tudor style home located on a 400 acre ranch. This secluded ranch borders Cal Poly State University property and is situated 2.3 miles from Highway 1 on a part paved/ part all-weather gravel road. The house has 4 bedrooms and 3 baths and sleeps 8-10 with a king, 3 queens and 2 twin beds. It has hardwood floors and granite counter tops. The kitchen is fully equipped and has an adjoining sitting area where guests can relax on a couch, enjoy the expansive view and chat with the chef while he or she prepares meals. The library is stocked with an eclectic collection of books. The home has high speed satellite internet access and good cell phone reception. There are 2 SMART TV's connected to a satellite dish which provides premium channel programming. The living room, with its mahogany paneling, leather couches and piano arrayed before an enormous fireplace, is reminiscent of a British gentleman's club or hunting lodge. Outside, the patio and garden have ample seating with both a wood-burning Santa Maria style bbq and conventional propane grill for your outdoor cooking experience. There is an outdoor fire pit is ideal for roasting hotdogs, marshmellos or just sitting around the fire under the stars.
Mike, one of the owners' sons, and his wife, Surika., livesin the stable building located approximately 100 yards downhill from the main house. They are happy to answer questions or help guests with any problems that may arise during their stay.
Guests are encouraged to bring their hiking boots and binoculars. The ranch is surrounded by rural Cal Poly property with its extensive system of dirt roads on which one can literally bike or hike for miles. For a more adventuresome and secluded experience, guests are welcome to explore the ranch itself which is home to deer, turkeys, coyotes, raptors and other native animals and birds. Those energetic enough to hike to the top of the ridge above the house will be treated to a spectacular view of Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo in the valley below and the Pacific Ocean ten miles distant.
Whether you are visiting this area to sample its world-famous wines and restaurants, to explore its pristine coastline or simply to relax and unwind, you'll be glad you selected the Stenner Creek ranch as your home away from home during your stay.
CAVEAT: The house is located at the end of a 1.5 mile dirt/gravel road. While the road is maintained by the county, it can get bumpy and as such, its not ideally suited for guests with low-clearance vehicles. Guests with such vehicles will need to drive slowly and carefully. Also, because it is a two story structure with stairs, the house is not well-suited for guests with mobility issues. The property is in a country setting but yet a short drive to town and attractions. You can sit on the lovely outdoor patios and see deer, beautiful hawks, eagles and so many owls in the evening. If you love bird watching it’s a great place. The home is very well taken care of and clean with plenty of room. If you love the outdoors and the quiet of nature this is a great place. We really enjoyed and would stay again.
Well appointed rustic ranch retreat with a European flavor. Location is wonderful and quiet on a large ranch tucked away in a valley with wonderful hillside trail at your front door. Great outdoor patio for grilling and sitting by the fire. Kitchen is well equipped. Home is big enough for are party of seven to spread out. Single upstairs bathroom is only downside but more than made up by rest of amenities.
We picked it for Cal Poly family weekend and bring the dogs without bothering anyone. It was perfect. It is a trek, especially at night since there are no lights and it’s tough to read instructions if you’re driving alone. Lol But, it was perfect… short drive to campus and downtown. We heard and saw coyotes, birds of prey…outdoor set up was great too. Would book again.
Remote location affords a peaceful stay. House was reasonably equipped, including propane grill not mentioned in listing. Not the best sleeping situation for seniors as the only bathroom upstairs is in master bedroom for the 5 beds upstairs. The main downstairs bathroom is also the pass through to the back yard. Works but peculiar. Nevertheless, the rental worked well for our friends gathering.
The house is great and very well equipped. Beds were very comfortable. Backyard is great with plenty of seating. House is off the beaten path and gravel road, so just be prepared. It was a great size for our group.
Unique property and experience. Couldn’t pick a better place for our family getaway. In the middle of
no where while being close to the best of SLO at the same time. Will be booking again. Thank you Chuck:)

Enjoyed Country Setting
We loved the combined kitchen, dining room, setting area. The surrounding area was great - we saw wild turkeys, deer, rabbits. Very peaceful! Property was everything as listed except not much closet space. Chuck was very pleasant and helpful. Would recommend this property.
We brought my parents and my adult children and it worked out pretty well. The property is nice and clean, but also a bit dated. The downstairs master off the kitchen was perfect for my parents who are close to 80. The upstairs bedrooms were spacious, but the master bath upstairs was not enough. We had our 4 adult children use the main bath at the bottom of the stairs. There was wood for fires at night, both inside and outside in their lovely yard. It was a comfortable place for a family stay.
We rented the home for a Christmas holiday get-together with our Northern California family and Southern California family. It was wonderfully comfortable and had everything we needed. Our hosts even had the house decorated for the holiday, which was a real treat! I especially appreciated the kitchen, which is well stocked with dishes and cookware. Overall peaceful and wonderful. Thanks so much for the attention to detail!
There were a total of 6 of us that stayed at this Vrbo and we all absolutely loved it! The property is meticulously maintained and there's so much of their family history in the way of furnishings, photos and books to explore. We walked around on the property and took full advantage of the outdoor seating and firepit. The location is just a couple minutes outside of SLO so it was easy to all go into town one night for a dinner celebration. All in all it's a fabulous location and a Vrbo hidden gem.
Super impressive property that makes you feel like you far away from the city. Quiet, so peaceful and spacious. Loved seeing the wild turkeys, quails and deers.
There is a long dirt road to get to the house but once there you likely will not want to leave! We enjoyed the serene setting and all the wildlife (we saw lots of deer, turkeys and hawks). The house was big enough for our family to spread out (there were 9 of us - including 3 teenage boys). Lots of opportunities for walks and sweeping vistas. We explored the hills and then did some day trips to the coast. The kitchen is fully equipped with plenty of cookware. The one kind of funky thing is that the easiest way to get to the back patio (which is fabulous) is through the downstairs bathroom. We just made it a rule that if the door was closed then you walked around. We used the bbq for ribs and chicken - and we (carefully) had a fire in the evenings. I say this because the conditions are very dry. On the one evening we had some wind, we opted not to light the fire as a precaution. All in all, a wonderful place to hang out with family and friends. Although there is a lot to do in the area - you just may opt to stay put!
Nice to be out of downtown, yet 10 minutes and we were downtown for a wedding. The house was perfect for our weekend. Looking forward to staying again.
Beautiful house. This home has everything you need, amazing kitchen, plenty of room for socializing and eating, bedrooms are roomy and beds are comfy. Communication with owner is amazing, they attended to our every need. Read other reviews to learn about house layout, it's somewhat unique--we made it work. Just a few notes: everything is a bit dated (we didn't mind); a few spots need serious dusting (easy fix?); we had a few hot days and even with all the fans, it was hard to get any sleep. That was rough. I still think it's a 5-star experience, really good value. Wish I had something like it for my family get-togethers.
I came here with my friends for a little Bachelorette getaway! We’re all in our 30s so we were excited to relax and enjoy some bonding time. This was the perfect place to do so! The mist rolled across the hills for some epic photo ops! We sat outside to enjoy the views and turkey calls. Plenty of space to lounge and relax. Perfect for a chill weekend with friends or family!

This property is fantastic! Located minutes outside of SLO, yet feels like you are away from it all. A great property inside and out. Fantastic outdoor areas to sit, relax, and watch nature. Very comfortable home with lots of space - very welcoming!
A terrific ranch property with access to everything the central coast has to offer. If you like “Western” lifestyle, this is your place. We had two families (8 people) plus a dog and we all had a great time and there is enough space here where we weren’t tripping over each other.
Lots of wildlife just steps from your door…. Including deer, turkeys, toads, hawks, vultures, and every kind of squirrel.
Easy check in - easy check out…. Just a great stay.
Lovely house in an amazing location. One of the few listings where the photos of the environment are actually not as nice as what it looks like in person. It's in a gorgeous setting. The hosts were responsive and professional, the house is very comfortable, and the outdoor space is great. We really enjoyed using the fire pit on the large patio. Highly recommended
