"Lovely hosts. The cottage was clean, comfortable and very well equipped, don’t worry if you’ve forgotten anything! Has been decorated since photographs were taken so now more country cottage than Scandinavian. Terrace and outside of property very dusty but it is a farm yard and the weather was extremely hot. "A large well equipped cottage in a small rural village. Access was difficult due to local road closures, however parking was good. There was an excellent pub nearby but no local food shop. The kitchen was very large and well equipped as was the lounge. There was a nice garden with country views. The patio decking needed some repair.There were two bathrooms, one upstairs for 3 of the bedrooms and an en suite off the downstairs bedroom. "Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very tired. Furniture was worn and dirty. Front revolving door was so dirty your fingers would slip on the handrail and your reflection in the dirty glass window was blurry. The tablecloths in the diningroom had sun spots and green stains. You can tell the management was investing in the exterior with fresh paint but the interior needed excessive work"

"We upgraded from a cosy room to a superior room. The room itself was lovely, though quite small and the bathroom had a roll top bath. The room was extremely clean and the decor was lovely. However, I would say that there was little space to put any of our things, little surface space in the bedroom and the bathroom. Our room was on the top floor; we were asked before arrival whether we had an problem with stairs, and there were quite a few levels to go up so be aware of this. I do have one gripe! There was a constant humming noise in our room, I expect coming from the extractor fan that was outside the bedroom window. We did put up with it but for anyone who likes silence, it would have drove you round the twist. There was a small radio on in our room when we arrived; so wondering if that was to disguise it. I assume this humming noise would have been heard in the rooms either side of us as well. We were in Room 20. Again, lovely room, was let down by the noise."

"Expedia didn t mention that dogs were not allowed anywhere in the hotel apart from the rooms. The manager ended up allowing us to have breakfast in the room as well as a cooked breakfast which is not allowed normally in the room. The breakfast was ordinary. We asked for missing cups and never got them. The shampoo and conditioner bottles were not replaced in the bathroom on the second day and the cleaning was obviously fairly basic as we found a tablet (medecine) under the chest of drawers. The staff was friendly and the hotel is quirky but very overpriced for what it is. The Mermaid Street is quiet and like a picture from a postcard with no cars parked on the street. The weather was bad so the bar was filled with people sheltering from the rain which meants the residents could not find a seat. Would not recommend especially if you have a dog"

"Such a beautiful building very very poorly maintained the first room we were in had plaster falling from the wall and smashed tiles in the bathroom. They changed our room and that was much nicer but still poorly maintained. The gardens are amazing and very well maintained! The bar staff didn’t know what drinks were (aperol) and was only saved by a very nice F&B manager! Dinner was great however breakfast was terrible with a long queue after being told to book for 09.30 we stood in line for 20 mins and no table was available then no pastries at all and asked if I would like toast after my breakfast arrived. Reception was not manned in the morning and the person manning reception when he had clearly returned from his cigarette wasn’t helpful at all! In summary a lovely location building and grounds with some to the worst Maintenece I’ve seen in years and I travel globally every week and totally understaffed with the trained and the untrained!!"

"I struggle to understand how this is a 4 star hotel, one bath towel in a double room. Asked reception for another and the expectation was for us to come down and collect it! Hotel public areas refurbished nicely however corridors to rooms haven't seen a decent makeover in what seems like years. Narrow corridors, squeaking floorboards, old fashioned keys to rooms. Shower door had the biggest gap. Breakfast was their only saving grace."
