The walkable area for shops and restaurants was excellent. You don’t have to go far for the forum and coliseum tour. The walk to the Vatican is about 1 hour but we did four monument stops, gelato and and excellent cafe for lunch on the the way to the tour. The guides are professional experts. Worth every penny. The hotel (with part of The Forum onsite) and room was amazing, but it was the service that really stands out. Starting with check-in, we were helped by Sucharest (sp?) who was so kind and welcoming. He happily answered all our questions and helped us make transportation arrangements, and would not accept a tip. Our bellman also cheerfuly brought all our luggage up to our room and gave us a detailed tour of the facilities. I wish I had asked for his name, but we were exhausted from our journey. The staff at the bar/restaurant also went above and beyond. The restaurant terrace is beautiful, and has an amazing view of Rome, including an outdoor patio and a lookout perch. The first night, Ian (Ayan?) served our drinks and snacks and gave us some inside tips on where to to explore. The next day, the breakfast staff was amazing. Ayeth, Ernio, AJ and Mae took such wonderful care of us, we instantly felt like we were in a first-class resort. And the food was outstanding.
