Great hotel with great sea views in a lovely town

Posted 09-Oct-2016
Location: The location was good - about a 20-min walk to the centre of Rapallo with its restaurants and shopping. Rapallo was a great base for a holiday here.
The hotel had a real old-fashioned European grandeur about it from the outside but was modern inside. Our room was large, clean and comfortable with a nice view. It was quiet at night, though it was the first room after the lift lobby so there was some faint noise from the lifts going up and down in their shafts from fairly early most mornings. It didn't disturb us unduly as we were becoming wakeful by then anyway. There were robes and slippers, nice products in the bathroom, a safe and a TV but oddly no tea or coffee-making - maybe that's not that unusual in Italy, not sure. The staff at breakfast were very nice, friendly and efficient and always pleasant despite being busy, the staff on reception were helpful but not especially friendly or genuinely welcoming. The breakfast buffet was generous and had great variety of beautiful fresh food from bread and cheese to fruit to eggs to pastries. There was a lovely pool on the terrace where towels and sun loungers were provided, and a spa, as well as parking on site. There was limited food in an expensive bar, or the expensive restaurant on the roof.

Great view, not great 'suite'

Posted 28-Aug-2016
Paid for a suite, got a big room with a fantastic view, but no separate seating area and no balcony. So when the children went to sleep we had nowhere to sit. Might as well have just paid for a double room instead of an expensive suite?!! Also got charged 12€ for parking on site! Where else was I going to park?! When you pay £300 for one night in a room and then get charged extra to park your car....disgraceful. Staff were nice, said the hotel was full, and the sea view was amazing, but feel really cheated out of my money.

Nice hotel

Posted 02-Aug-2016
Pros: Ambience of hotel lobby good, and breakfast on terrace overlooking sea and town picturesque.
Cons: A shuttle to town at certain times of the day. Definitely free wifi in the rooms, instead of just in the lobby.
Location: Good location for ferry trips to Portofino, St Marguerite and other locations. Also good train services to the Cinque Terre Villages, Camogli, Pisa.
Lovely hotel perched up high, view spolit by construction site below. Without a car walk to town and beaches rather arduous at 20/25 minutes each way including uphill climb especially approaching entrance to hotel. Bus service one an hour and not always on time.

City has lost it's charm. Try another place.

The wifi was awful. Very crowded town that has lost its charm. Would recommend another town nearby such as St. Margherita.
