A Day in Paradise
I travel to Panama often and every time a stay in Portobelo is a must on my trip! This beautiful historical village, located on the Caribbean seashore is just a couple of hours away from Panama City, is a perfect getaway to nature and peace! I stay in Casa Congo every time when I go there! Great comfortable rooms, beautifully decorated with the works of the local artists, and an amazing view of the bay when you wake up! A picture 1000 words cannot describe! Friendly and efficient team with great hospitality and a great seafood restaurant with the best Puplpo I ate. A beautiful gallery on the ground floor presents local artists work. This time we were 3 people to celebrate our birthday so we booked the apartment in the other building - Casa Rayo Verde! Fully equipped and simply great! Highly recommended!

Pick the right room
I should have asked for a room facing the sea when I booked as myview of a wall was disappointing. Room was also too small for a chair or desk, but fine to sleep in, and stunning art on the walls and even in shower room.

Very friendly staff that helped carry our bags and allowed us in when we arrived at 9:45pm. Rayo Verde had a great breakfast for us each day, as well! It was hard to find accomodations with enough room for the 3x of us in the area, but this room was spacious and we were able to cook our meals in the kitcnen.

Simply Amazing Stay !
Our first impression was how amazing the view from our balcony was of the harbour and shipwrecks. We had our breakfast and dinner each of the 3 days and the food was simply delicious. The hosts spoke both English and Spanish. I highly recommend this location in Portobelo for all travellers.

Beautiful place to stay in a beautiful old city.
This place is just fantastic! All the employees were incredibly helpful & friendly, our room stayed nice and cool as a brief escape from the heat, and they make delicious margaritas at the bar. The city is also a really cool place to discover and if you enjoy pizza, visit Pizzeria La Negra.

Gorgeous Place
This hotel was absolutely wonderful! The aesthetic was spot on! My only two minor complaints are that we had to pay for parking and that the wifi is not unlimited. Not a deal breaker for us, but also not what we expected for the price.

One of two beds was not good, but hotel changed our room to a better bed, unfortunately we had to share a queen bed, and pay an increase on price. Staff was wonderful Very quiet town Mojito was great, food ok

I was pretty torn on this review... Pros: Room and grounds are clean. Staff is friendly and helpful (They even arranged for someone to pick us up from the hotel for a day trip to one of the islands). Check in and out was quick and easy. Probably the best you can find in Portobelo. Cons: Location! This is definitely a day trip location, everything you “think” you would want to see is within a two block radius. All surrounding area is sad and dirty. (And I am not at all pretentious, I have visited many countries, am adventurous and will look for the off the grid activities, road side food stands, but this was by far the most disappointing) ... the hotel itself has no water/beach access, is Very difficult to find, so don’t go by GPS as once you reach Portobelo you will be looking for streets that do not exist (more like sidewalks). Breakfast was okay. Take away for me was don’t stay in Portobelo, but if you must, stay in Casa Congo.

Had a great time here. Ibin, the manager, was helpful and set up a couple water taxi trips for snorkeling. Breakfast was good as well as dinner in the restaurant, although it is closed Mon & Tues. Very clean and comfortable.

The staff was accommodating but didn’t seem to know we were coming, although they did find our name and had a room for us. They weren’t sure how long we would be there but that wasn’t an issue either. The room was very comfortable but a little “tired”. The bathroom was very nice and the shower was great; hot water and plenty of it. The breakfast was basic but good, actually the fruit and juice were wonderful. The staff was very pleasant.

The area where the hotel is located is somewhat run down and the hotel has no parking, so you need to find a place to leave your car. The food is good, but it is a limited menu but at a very affordable price and the food was quite fresh...however if you like cocktails, this is definitely not the place to get them (they were undrinkable). The breakfast which is included was quite hearty and fresh as well! The staff was beyond nice and accommodating, the view was beautiful and the room was really pretty. There is not much to do in the area and nobody will really offer information unless you ask-- however if you want a quick tour of the mangroves it will cost you about $15-$20 and they can arrange a little boat to take you out.

Cultural Experience on the Caribbean Coast
Due to Expedia's mistake, our room was not available! However, the staff was able to find nearby accommodations in a beautiful, one-bedroom apartment with a balcony that was more than suitable! Portobelo is a fascinating cultural goldmine. We were fortunate enough to hear a live concert of folk music and there is art everywhere in this town!

We had booked and paid a quadriple room via Expedia befhorehand but upon arrival the room had been given out go other guests. We were accommodated in another room with only one bed. Further we were told the payment had never been made and were charged the other room on the spot. Back at home I realised that I have been charged twice. Up to now, more than a month later, I have not been refunded despite several emails. Had I not been ripped off, I would say th hotel is nice and simple but overpriced for the rather hostel-like standard.

My experience The receptionist needs training The room was small on 2 floors upper floor accessible by SMALL Spiral Staircase . Sleeping on the lower floor was impossible because of heat rising from the kitchen . Poor WiFi Tele and AC not working Needs checking Prior to Guest arrival. No Possibilty of me promoting this Smelly hotel Sewage smell from the Sea . Portobello should be raised to the ground

Very nice place next to the bay. Great service and good food. Note that the terracce can be shared with other guests from neighboring rooms. If you are lucky you get a quiet french couple playng cards, if you are unliucky you may get a spanish couple “working from home without headphones on zoom….

Séjour simple mais agréable à Portobelo
Nous avons dormi dans une chambre double à Rayo Verde, très petite et basique pour le prix, avec des traces de moisissure en bas des murs. Climatisation, mini-frigo et bouilloire, lit confortable et porte ouvrant sur une petite terrasse donnant sur la baie, magnifique. Le signal wifi (code à demander à Casa Congo) est faible ou inexistant à Rayo Verde. La terrasse de Casa Congo où sont servis les petits-déjeuners, est beaucoup plus grande et confortable. Le personnel est sympathique.

Love this place. Been several times in their beautiful art gallery of the local artisans and this is my second time staying overnight in Casa Congo. Rooms are great and very comfortable with a porch to looking at the magical bay of Portobelo, an amazing view for a wake-up! Portobelo as a village is a unique spot that didn't change much since going there first in 1984! Very recommended!
