Piazza delle Erbe is a bustling city square in the heart of Verona. Each day a market is set up in the centre of the square and the outdoor chairs and tables of restaurants, bars and cafés are placed on the footpaths. Listen to the cries of market vendors, drink traditional Italian espresso and admire the eclectic mix of buildings that surrounds this central square. Since the Roman era, Piazza delle Erbe has been a central meeting place for the people of Verona. Many of the streets that cross Verona lead to the square. Stop by for a quick coffee or visit in the evening to sample the local cuisine. As one of Verona’s main entertainment precincts, there’s no shortage of authentic local restaurants. Sit down with a bowl of truffle risotto or some crunchy bruschetta. Listen as fresh produce vendors shout out their daily specials while you eat. Shop for souvenirs from the stalls down the end of the marketplace. Admire the Baroque façade of the Palazzo Maffei, one of the most distinctive buildings on the square. The nearby Torre del Gardello dates back to the 14th century. Notice the large statue of a winged lion, a symbol of the city’s prowess. In the middle of the square stands the cascading Fontana dei Madonna Verona, the centerpiece of Piazza delle Erbe. Lovely area with so many great options around to wine and dine. Perfect location for Verona city center stay and 20 mins from wineries. Very loud when balcony doors are open. I don’t know if the music is every night or just for Vinitaly period. Look out for shaky lamps and table vibrations. If your lucky it’s music you love and won’t mind singing along. Highly recommend this hotel for easy and non complicated stays. Deserves more than a 3 star to be honest. I had room 110. All rooms are different so I’m basing my review on my room.
