![Palluau-sur-Indre (Indre) Château de Palluau-Frontenac. Le château surplombe la vallée de l'Indre. C’est au XIe siècle qu'apparaît la première mention écrite d'un château qui relève des comtes d'Anjou. On doit l'édification de la place forte, vers 1073, à Foulques le Réchin comte d'Anjou (Foulques IV d'Anjou) et de Tours depuis 1068. Celui-ci donnera la place à son vassal, le baron Jean de Palluau vers 1075. Le Réchin qui était le cadet deviendra le chef de famille après avoir capturé et emprisonné son frère Geoffroy III d'Anjou. Le Réchin avait pris Angers en 1067 grâce à la trahison de puissants vassaux de son frère Geoffroy, traitres qu'il laissera massacrer lors d'une émeute qui souleva la ville le lendemain de son entrée dans la ville. En 1155, Geoffroy, premier du nom, était seigneur de Palluau, selon les titres de l'abbaye du Landais (Abbaye cistercienne de l'Indre) . Il était fils ou petit fils de Jean de Palluau. Au 12ème siècle, lors des démêlés du roi d'Angleterre (et comte d'Anjou) Henri II et du roi de France Philippe-Auguste, le château est dans l’apanage de Richard Plantagenêt (Richard Coeur de Lion), fils de Henri II par sa mère Aliénor d’Aquitaine. En 1188, le château est pris par Philippe Auguste sur les troupes d'Henri II, roi d'Angleterre, puis, repris par Richard Coeur-de-Lion, puis à nouveau repris par Philippe Auguste (La plus grosse tour du château sera baptisée "Tour Philippe Auguste"). Geoffroy de Paluau, seigneur de Montrésor, figure parmi les barons de Touraine qui se croisent vers l'an 1223. En 1236, un Geoffroy de Palluau, troisième du nom, aurait été seigneur de Montrésor sous le nom de Geoffroy Ier. En 1249, le chevalier Archambaud d'Argy était seigneur d'Argy et de Palluau (Un Archambaud d'Argy avait épousé vers 1160, une Agathe, dame de Palluau et héritière de la branche aînée de sa maison). Nous retrouvons le château encore au pouvoir des Anglais dans la seconde moitié du XIVe siècle. Pendant la guerre de Cent-Ans, lors de la chevauchée du Prince Noir (fin août 1356), Palluau est pris par les anglais et le château probablement incendié. En 1360, les anglais se retirent (traité de Brétigny : trève de 9 ans dans la Guerre de Cent Ans) de Palluau, mais démantèlent le chpâteau avant de se retirer. En 1365, Jeanne Pean ou Payen, dernière héritière du fief épouse Hugues de Tranchelion*. Pendant la Guerre de Cent Ans, la seigneurie appartient à la famille Tranchelion, qui la garde jusqu’en 1537, mais avec un intermède, de 1392 à 1400, où la seigneurie de Palluau est aux mains de la maison d'Amboise. Hugues de Tranchelion, et son successeur Guillaume restaureront la forteresse, ce qui lui donne son allure actuelle. En 1503, Charles de Tranchelion entreprend de moderniser sa demeure. Deux logis neufs sont élevés, un qui remplace le châtelet primitif sur l'est, et l'autre au sud, entre le donjon et la tour Sainte-Manoulde qui sera le logis principal. Le nom des Tranchelion s'éteint avec Charles et Antoine de Tranchelion. En décembre 1536, Claude Brachet hérite de la seigneurie de Palluau de Charlotte qui est sa grand-mère. Charlotte était fille de Jean Tranchelion et épouse de Gilles Brachet. En 1570, Claude Brachet II est seigneur de Palluau. Durant les guerres de religion, le château est envahi et incendié par Montgomery* en 1562 puis repris par les Ligueurs en 1584. En 1600, décès de Françoise de Prie épouse de Claude Brachet II. Le 25 février 1606, le château et la seigneurie sont vendus quatre-vingt-quatre mille livres à Antoine de Buade de Frontenac*, compagnon de Henry IV. Les dégâts des Guerres de Religions commencent à être réparés. Les Frontenac vont marquer de leur empreinte la vie du village pendant tout le XVIIème siècle. Louis de Buade de Frontenac sera nommé Gouverneur et Lieutenant Général de la Nouvelle France (Canada). Palluau sera érigé en comté au début du XVIIe siècle, en faveur de Henri de Buade, vice-roi du Canada. En 1622, Henri de Buade, fils d'Antoine de Buade, meurt sur le champ de bataille. Henri de Buade devint colonel au régiment de Navarre. Il a été tué en 1622 lors d'une campagne militaire et son cœur a été enlevé, scellé dans une boîte de plomb, et enterré dans l'église à Palluau. Le fils d'Henri, Louis, sera nommé gouverneur de la Nouvelle-France (Canada), en 1672, et une seconde fois en 1689 et mourut à Québec le 28 novembre 1698, en sa 78ème année. En 1626, décès d'Antoine de Buade. En 1700, la seigneurie est acquise par Paul de Beauvillier ( 1648-1714), Pair de France, Grand d'Espagne, Duc de Saint-Aignan et Comte de Buzançais. Protégé de Mme de Maintenon, il a fait partie du conseil des Finances, puis du Conseil d'En-Haut avec rang de Ministre d'Etat. Ses fonctions le retenant à Paris, il ne réside pas à Palluau et met le domaine en location. A la mort de Paul de Beauvillier en 1714, la seigneurie passe à son demi-frère Paul-Hippolyte de Beauvilliers. Ensuite, la seigneurie serait passée aux Rochechouart par le mariage de marie-Antoinette de Beauvilliers avec Charles-Auguste de Rochechouart en 1703. En 1763 (1770?), le domaine est vendu à René-François de Montbel. La terre sera administrée par M. Valuet pour le compte du comte de Montbel. Le comte de Montbel avait émigré à la Révolution, et, devint à la Restauration premier chambellan de Monsieur, plus tard Charles X. Elu député, le 22 août 1815, par le grand collège de l'Indre, il siégea dans la majorité ultra-royaliste. Il fut ensuite successivement élu, par le même grand collège de l'Indre, le 20 novembre 1822, et le 6 mars 1824. Il échoua le 24 novembre 1827, et le 3 juillet 1830. M. de Montbel fut toujours partisan des mesures d'exception et vota toutes les propositions ministérielles. Le domaine revient ensuite à sa fille Aline, mariée à Georges Camille vicomte de Velard, en 1838. Bruno Marie de Velard, fils des précédents, entreprendra la restauration des logis, agrandissant les fenêtres, réparant les cheminées intérieures, aménageant les combles à partir des lucarnes gothiques et créant une entrée du côté du parc, redessiné à l'anglaise. Ses héritiers successifs poursuivront son œuvre et une dernière tranche de restauration sera entreprise en 1910. Les travaux ne se termineront qu'en 1920. Après la guerre de 1939-1945, le château est mis en vente et connaît plusieurs maîtres : Pierre d'Alençon, puis le célèbre couturier et parfumeur Paco Rabanne, puis M. Jean Capy, issu d'une vieille famille du Nord. Jean Capy et son compagnon Marc auront redonné vie au château de Palluau, grâce à des concerts, des expos, des visites guidées, faisant passer le nombre de visiteurs de zéro à plus de 30 000, jusqu'à ce que le climat autour du château s'alourdisse : "Les effractions au château se multiplient. Inscriptions discriminatoires sur l'autel de l'église du château. Distribution de tracts dans le village. Pression des regards brûlés d'intolérance et de jalousie." (Midi Libre 6/7/2013 Fanny Cheyrou) En 1987, le Conseil municipal vote à l'unanimité l'acquisition du château mais le conseil n'est pas suivi par le maire de la commune. De 1990 à 2009, le château a été la propriété d'une S.C.I., avec pour gérant un citoyen britannique, qui a mené des travaux indispensables sur les dépendances et les toitures. 2009, acquisition du château par Jean-Roger Morvan, actuel propriétaire. ______________________________________________________________

Je tiens de vous très noble, haut et puissant prince et seigneur le roi de France, je reconnais tenir moyennant foi et hommage lige avec quarante jours de chevauchée - tout compris du départ au retour - et les biens suivants : La haute, moyenne et basse justice sur mon domaine : château, ville et châtellenie de Palluau, sauf sur l’espace où Geoffroy de Palluau, chevalier, exerce son autorité. De même, mes hommes et sujets, mes hommes et femmes de serve condition, me doivent la foi et hommage lige (dépendance envers le seigneur), leur droit, devoir et redevance … je en bailhe ce present escript seellé de mon seel le XII jour de novembre l’an mil CCC soixante et cinq." Texte original : "De vous trés noble, haut et puissant reddoutable prince et seigneur le roy de France je, Huguenin Tranchelion, escuier, seigneur de Paluau a cause de Johanne Peanne ma femme, tient, advoe a tenir au regart du chasteau et chastellenie de Chastillon sur Indre a foy et homaige lige a quarente jours de chevaucée quant ve[n]ant a chevaucher, compté alée et venue quant je me pars de mon chastel, les chouses qui s’ensiguent : premierement a mon domaine, a cause que dessus est dit, mon chastel, ville et chastellenie de Paluau, exepté ce que monsieur Geuffroy de Paluau, chevalier, a en ladicte ville de Paluau, ou toute seigneurie, justice, revangence, hautez, meanne5 et basse, et ou tout ce qui s’en despant et puit despendre et appartenir. Item les foys et homages liges et touz autres a devoir que mes homes et subgiez me doivent par raison et a cause de mondit chastel et chastellenie et ressort, et les maisons et chasteaulx jurables et randables a mes homes et femmes de servise et de serve condicion et autres, ou tout les droiz, destroy, seigneurie, revengences … " Gabriel de Lorges, comte de Montgommery, général des huguenots, pris Bourges en 1562 sans faire une seule victime. Il échappa aux tueurs lors du massacre de la Saint-Barthélémy, ayant été averti à temps. Le 30 juin 1559, lors du tournoi organisé par le roi de France Henri II, Montgommery avait blessé mortellement son souverain, lui transperçant accidentellement l'œil de sa lance. Capturé en 1573, il sera condamné, torturé et décapité le 26 juin 1574, sous les yeux de Catherine de Médicis. Antoine de Buade, compagnon d’Henri IV, lui avait sauvé la vie : Le Roi étant attaqué par deux ligueurs, Antoine de Buade de Frontenac avait abattu le baron de Frinet d’un coup de sabre, tandis qu’Henri IV faisait son affaire de l’autre assaillant, le comte de Château-Regneault, en lui criant "Rends-toi, Philistin !". "I have stayed at this hotel several times and I have never found a speck of dust or a marked or unclean surface. I have always enjoyed a good undisturbed sleep. The staff are very helpful and even uncorked some wine for me. Its location is fantastic, just off the n20/a20. Free parking and free strong Wi-Fi. It is next to a retail park , cheap fuel available at carrefour. There are several fast food restaurants nearby. It’s a real bargain "
