We had a very short transit stay but were very pleased to find everything we required for that stay! The room was very comfortable and very clean. Unfortunately we had to leave before breakfast so could not comment.

"Unexpected comfort in an out of the way place"
We did not expect such a comfortable and modern room in St Margarets hope on the Orkney Islands. There was adequate parking and the dinner was very good. The breakfast was only OK and we were the only ones there. We met some interesting locals in the Pub down strais

    Pocket Guide: Orkney Islands

    Hotels @ Orkney

Take a trip to the far north of Scotland to explore the dramatic scenery and distinctive culture of the Orkney Islands. The ancient communities of this network of around 70 islands have been shaped by influences from Scotland, Norway and Denmark creating a strong regional identity. Discover the history of the region, sample local delicacies, or have an active break in the great outdoors when you book a hotel on the Orkney Islands with Expedia.

    Holidays on Historic Orkney

The Orkney Islands have been inhabited for around 9,000 years, with a heritage that reaches back to Neolithic tribes and the Picts. Many sites of international importance are found on the islands, and a tour takes in ancient monuments in a beautiful natural setting. The Mainland and the town of Kirkwall provide the main focus for the south and north islands. When you have selected your ideal base for your visit, you'll find the history of the islands illustrated across markers that hark back to a Viking and Pictish past. Tours of the island by sea or by land allow you to see how the modern Orkney communities have grown and the relationship that has developed with Scandinavia and the rest of the United Kingdom

    Hotels in the Orkney Islands

Visitors are drawn to the tranquil surroundings of Orkney, off the north coast of Scotland, for the stretches of quiet beach, soaring cliffs, winding roads and an array of original local crafts and local cuisine. Choose accommodation on the mainland, or on the two nearby larger islands, and you'll be in an ideal position to discover everything the islands have to offer. Boutique hotels in traditional buildings bring you to the heart of the Orkney way of life, while more rural lodges or guesthouses give you a place to stay in the countryside.

Relax and enjoy the best of Scottish hospitality on the islands or use your hotel as a base to enjoy an active holiday in the great outdoors. Orkney features hotels with a great deal of personality and Expedia will offer you access to the best price available online. The changing terrain of the islands takes in lakes, coastline, bays and rocky headlands so you can select a hotel with a location close to impressive views with plenty of walking trails to explore. Local festivals celebrate Norse or ancient Scots traditions and musicians and poets are on hand to illustrate local history to visitors. Find a room with a view at locations including Ronaldsay, Kirkwall, Holm and Orphir.

The Orkney Islands can be explored by boat or by land with rural transport binding together the different communities.
