Royal Hotel Ross On Wye by Greene King Inns

10/10 Excellent

"We enjoyed our stay at The Royal. A central location in Ross-on-Wye meant an easy walk to shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs so left the car in the car park. The parking area is quite tight if you have a large car. Our room was clean, comfortable and warm. A bit of noise could be heard from the bar below but it didn't stop me having a wonderful night's sleep. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. We had a dinner and a breakfast both of which were excellent value. A bit of background music in the restaurant would have been nice. Overall an excellent hotel to use as a base to explore the lovely Wye Valley and surrounding area."

The Burton Hotel and Cloud Nine

10/10 Excellent

"We’re walking the Herefordshire Trail and stayed here for one night. I was a good choice. A lovely welcome. We had a room which was clean and comfortable with plenty of room to walk around. Food in the evening was good, with a good menu choice. Breakfast was excellent a good menu to choose from. All the staff were great. We would stay again if in Kington"

Hilston Park

10/10 Excellent

"We had a fantastic stay at Hilston Park, Monmouth, and would highly recommend it, especially for families. From the moment we arrived, the host was incredibly welcoming and kind, greeting us as soon as we pulled up. He went above and beyond to make our stay special and was brilliant with the children. They absolutely loved having a go on the quad bike, and he even set up a fire for us to enjoy before treating the kids to ice cream. These thoughtful touches really made the experience for us and made our stay extra memorable. The accommodation was spacious, clean and exceeded our expectations. The setting itself is beautiful, with huge grounds to explore, a lake and plenty of activities to enjoy. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to make the most of everything on offer, but there's so much to see and do that we'd love to return. One of our favourite things was the peaceful surroundings and lack of light pollution, meaning the night sky was absolutely beautiful. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The combination of lovely accommodation, a stunning setting and such a thoughtful, welcoming host made our stay truly special. We would definitely recommend Hilston Park to anyone looking for a family-friendly getaway!"

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to go to Norton Canon?

The best time to visit Norton Canon is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months. These periods offer the most pleasant weather for exploring the Herefordshire countryside.

During spring, the landscape bursts into life with blooming wildflowers and lush greenery, making it ideal for walking and cycling. The temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 10°C to 18°C, and there's less chance of extreme heat or cold. You'll find many local farms and orchards beginning to showcase their produce.

Autumn brings stunning displays of changing leaf colours across the Wye Valley and surrounding areas, creating picturesque scenery for walks and drives. Temperatures are similar to spring, usually between 9°C and 17°C, and this is also harvest season, so you might enjoy local food festivals and cider-making events.

While summer (July and August) can be lovely with warmer temperatures, it's also the busiest time for tourism, and accommodation prices may be higher.
