If you pick a hotel in North Osaka – also known as Hokusetsu – you’ll be within easy reach of some great attractions, open spaces and plenty of opportunities to see Japan’s natural scenery in all its glory.

To the north of Osaka and beyond the city’s boundaries into the wider Osaka prefecture, you’ll find a range of accommodation in North Osaka, mainly clustered around the key road and rail transport hubs and the major sightseeing destinations. Explore EXPO Park
For a glimpse of all that Japan has to offer wrapped up in one attraction, you could stay near EXPO Park. About half an hour north of Shin-Osaka, the park occupies the site of the 1970 Japan World Exposition. You can still see some of the original exhibits, including the Japanese Garden, Japan Folk Crafts Museum and the 65-metre high Tower of the Sun. There’s also a host of sporting facilities, hot springs, a treetop walkway, the National Museum of Ethnology and the International Institute for Children’s Literature.

If you choose to stay in North Osaka, take some time to visit the Meijinomori Minoh Quasi-National Park. Explore the paths through the tree-lined gorge to see the spectacular Mino Waterfall, or pick up the start of the Tokai Natural Trail and enjoy the beautiful colours of the season whatever time of year. Also within the national park are several important temples linked to ancient Mountain Buddhism sites.
A little to the east, Settsukyo Gorge also offers striking scenery, good walking trails and hot springs. If you visit in the spring, be sure to check out the Cherry Blossom Festival held in the southern part of the Settsukyo Gorge Park.
