The best area to stay in Nordhofen for most travellers is the Old Town, known locally as "Altstadt."The Altstadt is the historical heart of Nordhofen, characterised by its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and medieval architecture. It's largely pedestrianised and centres around the Marktplatz (Market Square), where you'll find the historic Rathaus (Town Hall) and numerous cafes and shops. The area is quite compact, making it easy to explore on foot.Couples often find the Altstadt particularly appealing. Its quaint streets, historic buildings, and selection of traditional restaurants create a wonderfully romantic setting. You're also just a short stroll from the Rhine River promenade, great for evening walks, and the Nordhofen Castle, which offers lovely views over the town and river. For those travelling with family, the area around the Stadtpark (City Park) offers a good balance of convenience and space. While not strictly in the Altstadt, it's just a 10-minute walk away. Hotels here often have more spacious rooms or family suites, and the park itself provides green spaces for children to play, as well as a popular playground.

The best time to go to Nordhofen is during the late spring (May to early June) or early autumn (September to early October) to enjoy pleasant weather and fewer crowds.During these shoulder seasons, the weather is typically mild and sunny, ideal for exploring the vineyards and historic towns along the Rhine without the peak summer heat or the larger tourist numbers. You'll find it easier to secure reservations at popular restaurants and experience the local culture at a more relaxed pace.Couples looking for a romantic getaway will particularly appreciate late spring when the cherry blossoms are in bloom and the vineyards are lush green, offering picturesque scenery for strolls and wine tastings. Early autumn provides a similar appeal with the changing colours of the leaves and the start of the grape harvest festivals, which offer a unique cultural experience.Families travelling with children might prefer early summer (late June to early July) for warmer weather, which is better suited for outdoor activities like boat trips on the Rhine or exploring castles.
