What a gem Creston Villa is! Thanks to Anna and Iain who made our stay a real home from home. From the breakfast with lots of choice, including so many jams, marmalades and relishes to homemade cookies to take with us for a later treat. We loved everything and we didn’t need to know anything about Lincoln before our trip, we could’ve learned it all at breakfast! Great location, easy walk into town or use the local bus service from just outside the property. Highly recommend. Thank you x

We booked a 2 night stay here to celebrate my wife's birthday , we wanted a relaxing weekend and the white horse seemed to offer what we were looking for . Right from check-in i realised we had definitely picked the right place . We received a warm and friendly welcome and were shown to our room . We picked a junior suit and there was nothing junior about it. We found it big , bright and offered everything we wanted . Very clean and well presented.

Absolutely loved my stay at The Duke William, the staff were super friendly and welcoming and very helpful. The room was very clean & quiet, however I don’t think it would be quiet in summer as the room (#2) overlooks the garden which is actually the beer garden. However there were other rooms that didn’t face the garden. Be warned though it’s at the top of a very steep hill, I walked from the train station, pretty hard going pulling a suitcase.

The town centre is centred around the historic Market Place, a large open square where markets have been held for centuries. You'll find a range of independent shops, cafes, and restaurants lining the surrounding streets, such as Stodman Street and Middlegate. The iconic Newark Castle and the National Civil War Centre are both within a short walk from the Market Place, providing plenty to explore.

The best time to visit Newark is typically during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.
During these periods, the weather is generally mild and pleasant, making it ideal for exploring the town's historical sites and the surrounding countryside. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, and accommodation prices can be more favourable. For instance, a stroll along the River Trent or a visit to Newark Castle is much more enjoyable without the extremes of summer heat or winter cold.
Couples looking for a relaxing getaway will appreciate the comfortable weather in spring and autumn, superb for leisurely walks through the town centre, browsing independent shops, and enjoying outdoor dining at cafes around the Market Place. The historic architecture, like the Georgian townhouses, is particularly appealing under the softer light of these seasons.
Families travelling with children might find the summer months (July and August) appealing due to school holidays, but should be prepared for potentially warmer weather and more visitors.
