We had a very relaxing stay here. The hotel feels peaceful and secluded, while still being only a 5–7 minute taxi ride from central Yufuin. Our standalone villa was spacious and had a private bath, which made the stay feel very private and comfortable. We also really enjoyed the dining experience. Having our meals in a private dining room was a nice touch, and the food was excellent. Every dish was beautifully presented and clearly prepared with a lot of care and skill. Overall, we had a great experience. My only concern is that the hotel is quite expensive, and the rooms and furniture are starting to feel a little dated. Some renovation and updating would really enhance the experience and make the hotel feel more in line with its price.

This resort went way above and beyond our expectations. The staff was very friendly and helpful, making us feel very comfortable when explaining how things worked. The buffet, lounge, and free drinks and snacks were wonderful. And the facilities are very clean and very well maintained. The different onsens all have different characteristics and they're all very charming and relaxing 😊 Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a luxurious relaxing stay!

Hotel as a whole was clean and well kept, although the decor was rather dated that gave you an ‘80s vibe (in a good way). Dinner buffet was nice and have a decent variety of dishes. First, the pictures on expedia or even the hotels website did not do this place justice. This is a gorgeous hotel with lots to do and see. We were checked in by "Lucky" who spoke really great english. He spent about an hour with us checking us in, walking us to our rooms, showing us everything in our rooms and helping with luggage. Both the dinner and breakfast were buffet with lots of options. I think we were the only foreigners there but they did not treat us any different. The shuttle down to the town square is very convenient. We did not use the hot springs but we did use the open air bath in our room which was amazing. The beds were reasonable comfortable. Enjoyed the plethora of amenities and open space in the room.

We were greeted on arrival by the nicest staff. The lady that was in charge of showing us around was so sweet and informative. She gave us all her recommendation's for an excellent visit to kusatsu and they did not disappoint! We enjoyed the onsens, the new lounge, the drum show and the food! We had so much fun!

Great stay. I booked a room with open air bath and it came with the access to the executive lounge for afternoon snacks and drinks. Snacks, beers and wine. The snacks there was amazing. Coz I booked two consecutive nites, they gave us access to the exclusive public bath, less ppl and with more privacy. The room was so clean and the staff were excellent. I was impressed by a staff Jaing, she was so helpful and always so enthusiastic and ready to help all the time when I saw her at the reception - check in and check out and when she was working at the executive lounge. The cleaning team was doing an excellent job. All of these made my stay so wonderful.

They are very patient and all employees have translator machines, they allowed me to check in early and take my bag to my room so I could walk around town. We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Sakurai. We booked the top floor suites, which came with several extra benefits. The room was very large and well laid out, with a kitchen, a bathroom with a jacuzzi and stunning view, two bedrooms, and a living area. We were taken straight to our room by a concierge when we checked in, which was a nice touch. The view was excellent — you could see the town centre from the room. We also had access to the Sakura Lounge, where food and drinks were included, and a more private onsen that was limited to a small number of guests. The hotel prepared a special dinner for special guests in a separate restaurant, using best quality ingredients. The food and service were both excellent. One thing to note is that the hotel is very large, so there are no private hot spring baths. This wasn’t an issue for us, but worth mentioning. The main onsen facilities are very good, especially the outdoor baths, which we would highly recommend. Thank you again for the staff at Sakurai.

Greetings & services upon check in & ck out was super. The rooms were clean & big & had lots of space. Cute short entertainment in the evening. The buffet that’s included was just okay. Nothing special. I would prefer the traditional Japanese meals for the experience but we weren’t given the option to choose upon booking online. Only thing I would complain about is the slippers for small size 5 feet were not available so walking in big slippers hurt my toes & no baskets to bring to the onsen when I see some other women carrying it. Not sure if they were missing from the room.
