"Excellent recenty refurbished hotelnwith all the facilities you need and high cleanliness. The bar is a beautiful piece of work and well stocked with local beers and spirits along with the regular favourites. The staff were lovely and obviously care about being excellent service providers. "This is a beautiful historic property with lovely grounds to enjoy. The staff were welcoming and helpful and made it a relaxing experience. The room was spacious and well furnished. Breakfast was delicious with a good range of quality food. I was disappointed by dinner. The waitress gave us some incorrect information about nibbles (the peppers were not padron), the bottled water was overpriced and the food was good but not special. Overall I’d still recommend as an enjoyable experience."

"Located centrally in the town with excellent parking. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Was nice to sit outside under the beautiful wisteria and enjoy a drink in the evening sun. Brasserie food was excellent. Breakfast was really nice also. A great base for exploring."

The Castle of Brecon Hotel

The Castle of Brecon Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"A beautiful hotel in a lovely location. We stayed here for 4 nights in a Superior double room. The room had recently been refurbished. The bathroom was huge and very clean. The room itself was very nice with views across to the Beacons at the rear. Having the DAB radio on Radio3 was a nice touch when we arrived. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and professional. We paid extra for breakfast, and we dined in 2 nights too. Food was very good. Parking was ok but a little limited for the number of rooms. There is on-street parking close by and the Promenade car park is free 6pm-8am. Note: if you happen to have seen The Hotel Inspector episode from over 18 years ago with Alex Polizzi that features this hotel, please don’t be put off. Time has worked wonders. It is unrecognisable from then. I believe it’s now owned by The Coaching Inn Group. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again."

You'll find the historic St. Mary's Church, after which the village is named, and a handful of traditional pubs and small shops. The general layout is quite compact, making everything easily reachable on foot. This area is particularly well-suited for couples seeking a quiet, traditional Welsh village experience.Couples will appreciate the tranquil setting and the opportunity for relaxed strolls through the village and its surrounding countryside. Many of the local accommodations, such as guesthouses and B&Bs, are situated in this central part, offering a homely base from which to explore the local walking trails and enjoy the rural views. For those prioritising access to the wider Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, staying slightly outside the immediate village centre, perhaps in a converted farmhouse or a holiday cottage, offers more space and direct access to hiking routes.
When is the best time to go to Llanfair-Ar-Y-Bryn?

The clearer skies also offer better opportunities for stargazing, as the area is known for its dark skies. However, if you prefer to avoid the peak tourist season and don't mind cooler temperatures, early autumn in October can also be a lovely time to visit.
