This was the fourth hotel we stayed at on the last night of our vacation to Portugal and it did not disappoint! Such a beautiful boutique hotel with Art Deco out the wazoo! The tromp l'oeil ceilings are amazing. The rooms are comfortable and we experienced lovely hospitality. Would come back here again, but stay longer. Sintra is a beautiful place.

Delightful bed and breakfast. Walkable to restaurants, shopping, and several of the historic sites. If traveling with a total of 4 people, recommend booking the two garden view rooms which are next to each other and the garden is out the French doors. The person who checked us in was very helpful. We loved Sintra.

Very clean hotel and room, with wonderful outdoor space outback. Staff very friendly and easy to communicate with. Electric hot kettle in the room. Very comfortable bed and bedding. I only wished we stayed 2 nights instead of one.

Beautiful, old house with matching furnishings; elegant common areas, sitting room with a beautiful view of the valley Wonderful and helpful staff. The room itself was rather small and cramped with no sitting area or a desk. the hot water in the bathroom was just lukewarm and down to almost a trickle.

This is a quirky hotel. Our room was great but there’s no elevator so it’s up to you to haul your suitcase up and down. Breakfast was across the street because the kitchen is being renovated. We paid for a parking space so we were right outside the gate. Staff very friendly and helpful and location excellent.

The Chalet Saudade was a dream! I would go back in a heart beat. Friendly staff, central location, and beautiful grounds. Our room was clean, convenient, and updated. We slept like babies.

It's absolutely charming and convenient to all of Sintra. Beautiful historic home with modern amenities and great charm. We were welcomed and felt like valued guests. Great sleep!

The property is a guest house. There is no elevator and the breakfast is served off property at a café around the corner. The reception is not staffed at night. The room was spacious. We had the suite. It would be perfect for a small family because there was a sofa bed. It was a little stark for a romantic get away. The bathroom was very minimalist and the shower wasn't functioning properly. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious. The location is excellent for visiting the town.

There were flying ant type of bugs in our room which was unpleasant. Otherwise clean but I wouldn’t stay again, I would do a day trip from Cascais as there are s no night life, in Cascais restaurants open for dinner at 7, here everything closes as 7 so we had potato chips for dinner. Parking was confusing and I am glad we only stayed one night.

Dear Sue, thank you for taking the time to review us. We're sad to hear you didn't have a great stay. We're sorry about the flying ants, they are some what common at this time of the year but we are usually very cautious to make sure we don't have any inside. We're sorry you have experienced this. Sintra indeed doesn't have night life, most our guests choose Sintra for that reason, as it is really quiet and peaceful. Most restaurants are open until 9/10pm. Sometimes later. We're sorry to hear you ate potato chips, please next time come and see us and we'll gladly help you :) As for parking, it is an old town and it might be difficult if you're not from here but we always try to assist our guests the best way to make the experience more comfortable and easy for them. I am sorry if we failed you.We hope in the future you can give Sintra another opportunity as we are a village with so many wonders and magic :) Thank you again and happy travels!

Amazing place to stay. The hotel is 140 years old but looks like new with all the nice renovations they did. However, you can appreciate the history at every cormer of the building. It has so much to tell and they made it even richer with all the small decoration details that you found all over. The place feels so quiet and private, but at the same time the staff is ready to help you when needed. I would definitely stay there again many times.

The staff is wonderful — friendly and helpful — and gave us an early check-in to our room. We were in a family suite, a walk up, but the view from the balcony was lovely. It is a 10 min walk to the center of town, and an easy Uber ride to Pena Palace. The breakfast at cafe saudade was delicious!

Amazing place in Sintra
Great location for a couple nights in Sintra. Walking distance to the historic town, downtown, train station and bus station. Everyone that was there was extremely friendly. The breakfast was incredible. Will definatly come back.

Beautiful clean and modern room. Amazing shower with hot water. Staff are super helpful. We brought the wrong adapter and they lent us one. Two minutes from train station. Bed and linens are super comfortable.

This was such a magical and unique guest house. We had room 13, which included a large bedroom, living area, and balcony. The space was unique….wood mosaics in the floor, fabulous art nouveau designs on the walls, and great light. And it was spotless. The staff is authentic, helpful, and truly local. We had a memorable (in the best way possible) experience at Chateau Saudade. And one more thing…the breakfasts were incredible. A real place…just lovely

The staff was helpful. Interesting building. Good location. For the price, I expected more: -a view of the gardens which by the way are only accessible from the outside. -larger room and better modernized -that the breakfast would be included or that it would change from one day to the next Mold was noticed in the shower. Not what it was made to be. Better to stay in Lisboa and take a day trip to Sintra. I will not recommend this place.

Dear Jo Ann, thank you for taking the time to review us, although it doesn't seem to be a fair review and you didn't not express this issues while still here with us, which is indeed a shame. The room you have booked - the Standard room - does not have a view. Nowhere it says the room offers a view. We do have rooms with a view and larger but they cost more. We have no direct access to the garden from the inside. We do have 2 rooms (Suite and Superior) that have direct access to the garden. Again it seems to me that this was just a wrong room choice and you wanted a more expensive room but ended up booking one of our cheapest rooms which is perfect for a lot of our guests but didn't suit you. As for breakfast, we have rates with breakfast and without. You have chosen the latter. The mold was an easy fix should you have told us. This is an historical house and we are constantly on maintenance. Sintra is definitely worth staying more than one night, one night is not enough to visit all the places, so we will strongly disagree with you on this matter as most guests that stay only one night say they wish they've stayed longer. We wish you all the best.

The Historic Guest House of Your Dreams Come True
This was the most extraordinary historic guest house we have visited. It was exceptional in every category. The tiny details here provoke smiles and warm caring at every glance. The staff made us feel like family from the first moment we arrived. This is a place you will want to linger and want to forget the hustle and bustle of Sintra for a bit. The breakfast was a feast at Cafe Saudade. This place is guaranteed to warm your heart.

Very welcoming and helpful. We wanted to eat at an authentic Portuguese restaurant; they recommended a place and made reservations for our group of four. It was the most amazing meal we had in Portugal and was a night we’ll never forget. The room was perfect as well. If we ever travel to Sintra again we will definitely come back to Chalet Saudade!

The large house is beautiful. The staff very nice. Should noted that the rooms are on many different levels and there is no elevator. We had a wonderful room, but if was down three flights of stairs. They do have a very nice young man to help with luggage.

I scored major points with my wife
My wife says I scored when I found and booked the Chalet Saudade. We had a change in our itinerary a few weeks before leaving home. The Chalet happened to have a room and I booked it as a surprise to my wife. We like to stay in smaller hotels when possible. I have to agree with my wife- I scored. The Chalet is a beautifully remodeled historic home. We had a beautiful suite-type room right off the main lobby (the only room on the main floor I think). A short 10 minute walk to the old city center of Sintra. We were able to see the highlights in a leisurely manner during our short 2 night stay. The breakfast was very filling and was hosted at their cafe about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

This place is GREAT! The staff, especially Catarina, was very helpful. They even have a large digital scale for weighing suitcases. It is extremely convenient with surprisingly large rooms. They also own a restaurant, which is only a few minutes away. A LARGE, delicious breakfast is surved there.

The front and back courtyard areas were inviting Nd well kept. An ice machine was available 24/7!!! The house is wonderful, smartly updated, and our bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept in. A wonderful place and stay. Staff was equally wonderful. We would definitely return to spend more time.
