Lelystad is located in the province of Flevoland and is very popular thanks to its central positioning. Go bargain hunting at Bataviastad, take pictures of the reconstruction of the Batavia, learn how to fly at Aviodrome and explore the wilderness at the Oostvaardersplassen, just a few kilometers from the city centre.
When it comes to shopping, few Dutch towns beat Lelystad. Gordiaan is the main shopping centre, whilst Lelycentre is the oldest shopping area in the city. Both are just a stone’s throw away from all the best city centre hotels. A little further away are Bataviastad and Palazzo.
Check out the Batavia-Werf; the Agoratheater, with its bright orange, futuristic façade; and the Zilverparkkade, a series of buildings of which each was designed by a different architect. And don’t forget Aviodrome, the largest museum in the Netherlands covering aviation and space travel. The FSweekend is held here annually, the largest flight simulator event on the planet.
If you want to explore further afield, why not grab yourself a hotel close to the highway? Not only does this give you easy access to surrounding towns and cities, but to the Oostvaardersplassen too - a beautiful reserve that you can explore on foot or by bike.
