Laugardalslaug consists of three pools of varying temperatures. The first is an Olympic-sized outdoor pool with eight lanes for training. The second is an Olympic-sized indoor pool with ten lanes and a cooler temperature for longer swims. The last is the smallest and warmest, perfect for kids or for a relaxing soak. The attraction's four hot tubs are very popular, with temperatures rising to 108 F (42 C). The largest tub has space for 50 people. Experience the social side of a Reykjavík municipal pool as people chat, play chess, hold meetings or simply unwind after a long day. Pre-book a massage for a very relaxing experience. A new saltwater hot tub, the first of its kind in Iceland, was built in 2012\. The cold water comes from the sea and is heated to 104 F (40 C). There are also a whirlpool, steam bath and 280-foot (86-meter) twisting waterslide, which is fun for children of all ages. The slide’s interior alternates between flashing disco lights and areas of complete darkness. The pool has well-equipped changing facilities and towel and swimsuit rental. It’s important to follow the pool etiquette of showering with soap before entering. After your swim or soak, enjoy a snack from the on-site café, where you can order one of Reykavik’s legendary hot dogs. The pool is located in the Laugardalur Valley, a large recreational area packed with things to do. Explore the Botanical Garden and see the many species of arctic flowers. The Zoo and Family Park is also nearby and features a terrific all-seasons playground. Rent a bike to explore the valley’s jogging and bike paths or lace up some skates and hit the indoor ice rink: There’s more than enough to do here to fill a day! If you're an ambitious walker like me who prefers privacy and adventure, this location is excellent, with easy access to 24 stores, groceries, bus stops, and dinner options. There's usually parking in the area, even if it's not the ODDSON spaces, but be careful to avoid the reserved spots directly next door. The kitchen is perfect, the bathroom is small but clean, and the bed is super cozy. With Icelandic heating, you can keep a window open at all times, which feels refreshing. The staff are responsive, my only complaint is the late check-in time, so definitely recommend booking the day before you arrive if your flight lands early in the morning.
