"Room with kitchen area was nice, although just combined microwave / oven / grill. However with all crammed into relatively small room with head end of bed next to fridge with hum of the pump was not ideal. Not sure if would get room with kitchen again unless really needed… rather than nice to have…"

"This was actually a two night stay - two separate, sequential reservations - which the staff dealt with just fine on check-in, though despite getting my keys renewed first thing on Day 2, the keys still did not work when I got back to my room - first world problems! Biggest issue was that the hotel only had one working lift (elevator) for ten floors - you can imagine how busy that one elevator was! Breakfast was OK, though the eggs benedict was luke-warm rather than hot. Decent continental breakfast selection, but mini-croissants were not fresh, and there was a distinct lack of any fresh bread (only sliced bread for toasting) - a few baguettes would make a difference! The room was pretty spacious and comfortable and reasonably quiet. It looked a little tired in places, but nothing too troubling. The staircase used in place of the elevator service was somewhat grubby in places and not what would be expected of a 4* hotel. The exit/entry off Calton Road is a bonus for easy access to Edinburgh Waverley Station. The gym, although small in size, was well-equipped with free weights, and the steam room in the spa was a real bonus."
