"Our room was spacious and very clean. The private onsen was large and very comfortable, looking out over the river but completely private. We had the kaiseki dinner each night which was elaborate and delicious. The town of Yamanaka is very pretty with fun row of shops specialising in lacquer wear and pottery, some cafes, the usual restaurants and a big public men's and women's bath, along with a beautiful walk in the gorge along the river. "A beautiful place and a real honour to stay here as a westerner. Robes and amenities were provided and the baths were excellent including an outdoor area. "Amazing onsen facilities. They have both private and public bath. Guests can reserve one private bath per night and use public bath unlimited. Their lady public bath has an indoor one and a semi-open one - do try the semi-open one! Lots of fresh air and you can hear the sounds of insects and river. Both breakfast and dinner were wonderful. And make sure to attend the performance at the lobby at night (8:45 pm during our stay). The traditional artist sang a few local traditional folk songs with shamisen. Very peaceful and pleasant experience"

"The place is great but i could not use the bath due to my tattoos. Also the room we stayed in was a smoking room when we paid for non-smoking. There is not a lot to do around the hotel unless you get a bus to another town. Breakfast was a very traditional Japanese breakfast."
