"Stayed one night as we had a party close by. Reception staff for check in & check out were first class friendly & very helpful. Room was adequate, comfy bed & the bathroom was clean. Shower was really good also. Only one thing I would say, when entering the room there was a foosty smell. Maybe just needs aired or freshened up. Otherwise we had a nice overnight."

"Stayed for 2 nights for a wedding, on arriving the receptionist was polite and very helpful, directed us to our room which was easily found. Our room was beautiful and clean, well maintained. We had a room overlooking the river which was quiet and peaceful with stunning views. Breakfast in the morning of the wedding was amazing, hot and plenty of it. So we didn’t go hungry. The bar staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately the only down side was the exterior of the building. In need of a little TLC cleaning of the gutters and splash of paint would make such a difference. The grounds were well maintained and clean. Would I stay again. Yes I would"

"Overall Had a good stay. Our standard room the bed was a tiny double and on one side a sloping roof making it very difficult to get in and out of bed without smashing head. The kettle didn't reach the plug so had to make coffee on the floor. The shower was an awful old electric thing that didnt get hot and was just a dribble of water. The bar was set up for breakfast by 8pm and so we couldn't sit and enjoy a drink there after dinner. However these were just wee annoying things. We had a great dinner, very tasty and good portion size. Breakfast was okay. The staff were all lovely. We would stay again but pay extra for a superior room"

Haughton Arms Hotel

"We booked very last minute and got a good price which included breakfast. We had requested a room with a bath if possible but didn't get one and staff member who checked us in didn't mention the request at all. The room was a good size and clean enough. We were only given 1 coffee cup in the room but that didn't bother us as we didn't need it this time but I'm sure if we'd asked we would have been given one as the staff on the bar/restaurant were very friendly and good. They allowed us to go for a later breakfast which was fantastic and the food in the restaurant the night before was really tasty as was the breakfast of which there was a good amount of selection. We would stay again if in the area."

The Commercial Hotel

"The small village of Tarland is very quiet, so we were surprised at just how good the Commercial Hotel is. I understand that a lot of walkers & cyclists use the hotel and I'm not surprised, as it is in beautiful surroundings and only 5 miles from Aboyne. We received a very pleasant welcome, and our room was large, beautifully furnished and very quiet. Whilst we stayed for 2 nights, circumstances meant we only had breakfast although on our last evening, we saw that the restaurant was quite popular. Breakfast was special with a large choice of cook to order food and lots of tea or coffee. We will stay here again and recommend it to any one looking for a nice hotel in the area."
