McKays Hotel Bar & Restaurant

"Don’t think twice … Book here right away. The stairs are a little old, however that is part of the charm. And they offer to carry your bags up. This was by far my favorite place to stay in Scotland. The service was top notch (even in the bar), friendliest staff we have come across, and the room was awesome."

"Nice, large room with a soft, comfortable bed. Good amenities, large bathroom with tub and shower. Fabulous shampoo and body wash! TV wasn't good though, pixelated on most channels. Poor reception. We had dinner and breakfast there. Both highly recommended, tasty, lots of options, delicious. Staff are marvelous! Always pleasant and helpful, despite being short staffed, they worked hard and made our visit very enjoyable! Recommended hotel and restaurant!"

"I stayed in a room rather than one of the lodges, and the room was lovely, very comfortable, and spotlessly clean. It's worth noting its on the very edge of the town, around a 15-minute walk from the centre of Ballater. My only disappointment was that the rooms are not serviced daily unless you are staying for a longer period, which wasn't explained at check-in. It was a little frustrating to return after a long day out to find the room hadn't been serviced, as that's one of the things I most enjoy about staying in a hotel. However, once I queried this, the staff explained the policy and provided fresh towels when I asked. It certainly didn't ruin my stay. Overall, this is a lovely hotel with comfortable accommodation, friendly service, and I would happily stay here again."

"The hotel is old but offers excellent value for money. Breakfast is really good and the staff are welcoming and helpful. Located on a bus route between Aviemore and Grantown so plenty of opportunities for walking or just visiting local facilities."

"Excellent 2 night stay at this family friendly hotel in October with our two grandkids. Only negative was the pool having to close for a deep clean on one night of our stay so our grandkids missed out on the pool disco, however I am sure this was required for health and safety reasons."
