Kathmandu
10.0 out of 10, Exceptional, (2 reviews)
"Lovely hotel with nice, big rooms beautiful pool/bar area, great gym and nice staff. It is also located in a nice area with walking distance to several places including buddha stoupa, without being a noisy area. Breakfast was okay, a little lacking for our taste BUT the omelet and the fruits were VERY nice. Again: staff was very helpful and nice! Some minus for: the floors in the room could have had a scrubbing down. Not a huge issue for us but still."

What fitness activities should I do in Kathmandu?
Kathmandu offers a surprising array of fitness activities, blending opportunities for both invigorating workouts and serene wellness experiences amidst its vibrant culture and stunning natural backdrop.

For those who appreciate the outdoors, the surrounding hills provide excellent hiking and trekking opportunities. Trails around places like Shivapuri National Park offer varying levels of difficulty, from gentle strolls through forests to more challenging ascents with panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and, on clear days, distant Himalayan peaks. Mountain biking is also popular, with routes winding through rural villages and terraced fields, offering a unique perspective of local life while getting a fantastic workout.

Indoor fitness options are readily available within the city, with a growing number of well-equipped gyms. These facilities typically feature a range of high-end fitness equipment, including cardiovascular machines, weight training apparatus, and dedicated areas for functional training. Many offer flexible membership options, making it easy to drop in for a session or two during your stay.

For a more holistic approach to well-being, Kathmandu is a renowned centre for yoga and meditation. Numerous studios and ashrams offer classes for all levels, from introductory sessions to advanced retreats. Practising yoga in a peaceful setting, often with views of the valley, can be a profoundly rejuvenating experience, promoting both physical flexibility and mental clarity. Several establishments also offer traditional Ayurvedic treatments and massage therapies, great for recovery and relaxation after a day of exploration.
Which are the best areas to stay in Kathmandu to be near healthy food options?
Kathmandu offers several districts that cater to a health-conscious palate, making it straightforward to find nourishing food during your visit. Thamel, a bustling hub, is particularly well-known for its wide array of eateries. Here, you'll discover numerous cafes and restaurants serving fresh, organic produce, often sourced from local farms. Many establishments provide extensive vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free menus, ensuring options for various dietary requirements. Look for places offering traditional Nepali dishes prepared with a lighter touch, focusing on fresh vegetables and lean proteins.

Another excellent area is the Lazimpat district, which is home to a good selection of upscale restaurants and health-focused cafes. These venues often feature international cuisine with an emphasis on wholesome ingredients and innovative preparations. You can expect to find dishes rich in superfoods, freshly squeezed juices, and artisanal breads, superb for those seeking premium quality and refined dining experiences. The serene atmosphere in many Lazimpat establishments also adds to a relaxed and enjoyable meal.

For a slightly more local yet still health-oriented experience, the area around Boudhanath Stupa offers some charming cafes and guesthouses. While perhaps not as overtly health-focused as Thamel or Lazimpat, many places here serve simple, wholesome Tibetan and Nepali meals, often using fresh, seasonal ingredients. You'll find delicious momos (dumplings), thukpa (noodle soup), and various vegetable curries that are both flavourful and nutritious. It's a wonderful spot to enjoy a healthy meal while soaking in the spiritual ambiance.
