"As an infrequent traveller and senior citizen, I appreciated the very pleasant and generous assistance with phone, navigation and general issues. I enjoyed being in the older traditional artistic area. Shakya House was beautiful, comfortable and secure. I would love to stay again."

"I’m from the U.S. but Tanani is our favorite place to stay in Kathmandu (Lalitpur). It is a very beautiful home designed by the owner and managed by the owner. I wouldn’t stay any where else when I come to Kathmandu. Even now, I still have communication with the owners, Shova and Dinesh. They are very friendly and courteous and treat everyone as welcomed guests in their home. It is very clean and well maintained! "

Ancient temples and bustling markets fill the valley where prayer flags flutter in mountain breezes. Climb the steps to Swayambhunath at sunrise, then wander Thamel's narrow lanes for momos and handcrafted singing bowls.
Comfy beds, great service, super friendly staff, tasty breakfast, quiet at night.
Area is a little dark at night, not sure I’d walk around by myself then, but apart from that, everything about this guesthouse was excellent.

Can’t rate it 5 stars as anything other than an excellent backpackers’ hostel!
Toilet and shower on every floor; private rooms available; cooking facilities; and run by a friendly Nepalese family.

I love being at Kathmandu homestay!
I came back here bacause I loved it so much. The family running it is just so nice and they help you with everything and you become part of their lives for a few days. If you want the feeling of coming home after a day then stay here. Breakfast is simple but good and they invite you for dinner one evening you are staying with them.

I spent a lovely two nights at Shakya House. All of the staff were very friendly, especially the owner. I stayed in the Green Tara room (twin) - the mattresses were very comfortable, the room was very clean and had some lovely furnishings. The bathroom is clean and has a very hot shower. There is a pleasant self-service breakfast room with fruit, breads, eggs, cereals, tea and coffee. At the front, there is a lovely, peaceful garden. The location is 10 minutes' walk to Durbar Square which means...

The property was beautifully designed, comfortable and the breakfast provided was delicious. The only downside was the courtyard was very brightly lit at night and the curtains were very thin white fabric which meant the room was not dark at nighttime and prevented me from a good nights sleep. The taxi was unable to get to the property due to the narrow streets so you need to carry your bags a short distance which is not a problem.
One thing to be aware of and would apply to any property you...

A guest house in Kathmandu is typically a larger establishment with more rooms, offering a more hotel-like experience, and may provide additional amenities including luxury bedding. In contrast, a B&B is usually a smaller property that focuses primarily on providing a room and breakfast. A B&B is often more personal, and breakfast is typically included as part of the stay, but other services might be more limited compared to a guest house.
