"Showing signs of wear and tear. Very poor parking facilities with very hefty charges! When someone parked next to me I could not get in the drivers door. A lot of exterior noise from 6.00am. I was maybe unlucky with situation of room. Bed was comfortable and breakfast adequate. Better options in Aberdeen."

"Having been in international business all my working life, I have spent nights in virtually hundreds of hotels, from 5-star to 3-star etc. worldwide. This hotel should never be booked by anybody arriving by car. There is zero signposting for it, nor can you see it from the street as it is based between other high-rise blocks nor any direct access to the hotel to unload your luggage. It took us more than one hour to locate the hotel, but unloading can only be done when you stop on double yellow lines, risking immediate traffic tickets. Then you have to lug cases up stairs before you get to the entrance. Having asked for corresponding information beforehand, non was received - other when I was already on the way, and that was useless. Parking is the next major problem as they have no in-house facility. Two parking facilities with approx. 2000 parking spaces exist - about half a mile away. Once you got in, you have to find your way through 2 parts of the shopping centre, which closes at 6.00 pm. Having been rather agitated looking for the parking facility (as the sheet given by the hotel, again, was useless), I parked the car somewhere. It subsequently took me two days to find it again. How any hotel chain like the Marriott can offer such an arrangement is totally incomprehensible. Never again. This arrangement for a five-day break totally annulled any benefit one could have had from a stay at central Aberdeen. Don't complain afterwards - you have been warned."

"We had to wait beyond the 3pm check in to get in our room. We were exhausted having come over on the overnight ferry from Shetland. We took our dog and the dog rooms are a 5 to 8 minute walk with you luggage include going up a floor and back down. There was no offer of help. Our room keys failed twice. The 2nd time I rang reception and got them.to bring them down.When we checked out the receptionist said it was probably because the battery in the door needed changing! The room itself was big and comfy. There was a fridge. The bathroom was new and nice. Blackout curtains. The spa area was also a 10 min walk from our room including having to go outside. The breakfast was ok. Self service. The hotel has a lot of functions so make sure you are nowhere near the ballroom or bar if you want quiet."

"Stayed for a gig at the P & J live, only advice, if staying for a gig get there early or there will be no parking. not enough spaces for the rooms. Other than that, lovely hotel."
Mercure Aberdeen Caledonian Hotel

"The Mercure is an older and I suspect much grander hotel at one time. It has a sense of opulence about it with wide staircases, high ceilings and stained glass windows, however there are also signs of aging, i.e. worn carpets, old windows. I think it adds to the charm. The breakfast staff were very attentive and pleasant. Breakfast was typical fare, with adequate choices available. My room was well appointed and the bed comfortable. My only complaint was noise made by the fire door slamming shut when people went through late at night.The location was a short walk from the central bus/ train station, and across the street from the union terrace gardens, a little green oasis in this granite city. I enjoyed my stay and would come again."
