Pocket Guide: Hua Hin

Hua Hin is the oldest and most attractive beach resort of Thailand. Eight kilometres of stunning beach, the highest density of world-class golf courses, and an old-world charm unspoiled by overdevelopment make it a truly beautiful holiday destination for foreigners and Thai people alike. Visit the exotic Panee Butterfly Garden, get pampered at a spa, enjoy a Thai massage, or join a cooking or art class. Dine on the freshest seafood in a beach restaurant on stilts or try local delicacies at the nightly street market. Kiteboarding is one of the most popular water activities in the area. Pala-U Waterfall, 60 km west of Hua Hin, is one of many natural attractions to discover in the area.

Hotels and accommodation

While Hua Hin used to be a summer retreat for the Thai royal family in the 1920s and still mainly caters to Thailand’s elite, Hua Hin hotels and resorts come in many price categories. There are plenty of luxury hotels in Hua Hin, but budget accommodation is also available. Almost all hotels in Hua Hin are located within a street or two of the beach.

Getting there

Hua Hin is located 200 km south of Bangkok. After the closure of Hua Hin Airport, most tourists arrive at one of Bangkok’s two international airports: Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang International Airport (DMK). Several trains and air-conditioned coaches a day connect Bangkok to Hua Hin.
