Owner and staff are friendly. Has parking and you need a car due to distance uphill from centre. While the room was spacious, the property is very dated (probably needed a refurb 15 years ago!). It's ok at the right price.

The 2 units we stayed in were both tired and in need of an upgrade.
So noisy. You can hear people in the other rooms, the pipes rattle from other people’s rooms. There’s an electronic air purifier that noisily goes off all night. You can hear the traffic from outside. And it smells.
Nice property with great rooms and amenities. Had a relaxing stay here and would definitely ome back!

Expected a studio apartment with kitchen but space and kitchen facilities were minimal. The staff were happy to empty the fridge of the mini bar junk so we could use it. Good location for walking to city venues.
The Mayfair is cosy, comfy and great value. Off street parking is provided. I like to joke that instead of staying with mates and risking parking fines every day that it is less expensive to pay to stay at the Mayfair and then explore Hobart by foot. Be warned, parking in Hobart's CBD is expensive and the parking fines are hefty!
No frills property. Just a functional room to stay in. We only stayed one night - did a late check in and quite an early check out. Checking in was no problem even though it’s late. I loved the exterior and the view, but the interior is rather dated. There was thankfully sufficient heating in the room.
Overall the stay at this Motel was pleasant. As far as walking into the city you have to be a bit of a mountain goat as it is very steep as far as the walk back to the Motel from the city center.
Beautiful old building
Great views
Nice area
Good size room
Value for money
Only issue is up a very big hill and I was on foot. Wasn't inspecting this.
The staff were very friendly and gave me a free upgraded room upon arrival. I had 2 minor requests and both were dealt with promptly. A nice stay but decor back in 60s.
Motel Mayfair on Cavell was fantastic, rooms are clean with a retro vibe. Staff are polite and accomodating.
The motel is close to CBD, with a small strip of shops nearby if need be.
Property was 25 minutes walking distance to Salamanca markets, pier and restaurants. The shower head needs replacing and bedroom needs a thorough clean.
Convenient, cosy & cheaper than most but so pleasant. Great bed, hot bath and the views - from Units 6-10 upstairs such views of kunanyi Mt Wellington, Constitution Dock and Sandy Bay are amazing. Our 4th stay and will again - thank you Mayfair on Cavell.

Liked: Room comfort
The room needs a big refresh. It’s really dated. Old flower wallpaper, old curtains, marked carpets, odd pieces of furniture. Big room. There were ants in the bathroom. The motel kept calling me before checkin, which was annoying.
The hotel is in dire need of modernisation, no air-conditioning, water pressure in the shower was poor and easily affected by use of cold water from other units.
Positioned fairly central to town access, although on a pretty steep hill and finally priced ok.
Just like visiting Grandma decor 😉 Very reasonable tariff for spacious & comfortable upstairs room with bath & onsite parking. Pleasant walk to Constitution Dock but do take Goulburn St back, less steep. Pigeon in the Hole cafe and Marquis Bistro & Buffet nearby. Our third visit for 2-3 nights with views of kunanyi Mt Wellington so close and the harbour. Would stay again. Thank you Mayfair on Cavell 🤗
