Herrenhausen Gardens is a vast oasis of green in the heart of Hannover. It comprises several individual gardens of varying styles that contain a range of features and structures. Wander through the parks on a fine summer day to take in the wonderful scenery of these majestic landscape gardens.

Walk along the stately Herrenhäuser Allee, a wide promenade flanked by lime trees in the Georgengarten section of the park complex. Capture photos of the 18th-century Leibniz Temple near the pond and enjoy a meal at the café.

Admire the majestic architecture of the Georgenpalais mansion, which today contains the Wilhelm Busch Museum. It holds splendid works of art by its namesake artist as well as a wing dedicated to cartoons and graphic arts.

Toward the northern end of the park is the Berggarten. Browse the arrays of trees, flowers and herbs in this magnificent botanical garden. Find the orchid collection, which is one of the largest and most significant of its kind in Europe. Visit the greenhouses for tropical vegetation and view the splendid jewel garden of annuals from around the world.

The Welfengarten, once the residence of a count, is now the grounds of the Leibniz University of Hannover. Enter the 19th-century Welfenschloss castle for a look at its various statues and features.

At the heart of the park is the Great Garden, a Baroque landscape park. Stroll through the maze of paths to see the fountains and pavilions. Attend a musical at the Garden Theatre and see colourful mosaics by Niki de Saint Phalle in the Grotto.

There is a fee to access all of the sections within this park complex. It opens daily year-round from morning until late afternoon.

Find Herrenhausen Gardens about 2 miles (3 kilometres) northwest of the historic centre of Hannover. Take a bus to one of the many stops that surround the park or drive from the city centre within 10 minutes. Visit nearby attractions, such as the Friedhof Herrenhausen cemetery, the River Leine and the Leibniz University of Hannover.
