The western side of Heraklion's old town, particularly near the Chanioporta (western ramparts), is often the best area for convenient parking while remaining close to the city's attractions. This area offers a practical balance, allowing guests to easily access the historic centre on foot without the stress of navigating the narrow streets and limited parking within the Venetian Walls. Its proximity to the main road network also makes it a good base for day trips around Crete. For travellers prioritising maximum parking convenience, especially those arriving by car or planning to explore the island extensively, staying near the port and waterfront areas is highly recommended. Here, larger public parking facilities are more readily available, and while it's a short walk to the heart of the city, the ease of parking often outweighs the slightly longer stroll. This option is particularly appealing for those catching early morning ferries or arriving late in the evening.Couples and families who desire to immerse themselves in the historic core without parking worries should seek out hotels within the city centre that offer private parking. While driving inside the old town can be challenging due to one-way systems and pedestrian zones, a hotel with dedicated parking provides the luxury of staying right amidst the action, allowing for spontaneous strolls to local tavernas and cultural sites without a second thought about the car.
