Hotels @ Haarlem
Haarlem is the capital of North Holland and is loved for its historic city centre. It is located on the River Het Spaarne, which divides the city in two. Here you will find plenty of national monuments, around 1150 in fact, of which three are listed in the Dutch top 100.
Where to Stay
The best place to stay is, without a doubt, the city centre. Old streets, centuries-old buildings, canals and courtyards make the historic centre a charming place to stay. One of the most famous attractions is the Teylers Museum, the only museum on the planet housed in an authentic 18th century building. One of the other best loved sites is the Frans Hals Museum.
In the middle of the city centre you will find de Grote Markt, home of the town hall, the Vleeshal and St. Bavo Church with its 80-metre high church tower, which dominates the city skyline.
Grabbing a bite isn’t a problem in Haarlem. It’s wonderful destination for foodies and is only second to Maastricht in having the most restaurants in the Netherlands.
Haarlem is also a great place for shopping. The city has been crowned ‘best shopping city in the Netherlands’ twice for a reason. Visit the Grote Markt where you will find countless streets and alleys full of stores and boutiques of all kinds, from cute boutique stores to big big fashion outlets. Be sure to visit Kleine Houtstraat, considered by many to be the best shopping street in the Netherlands.
Haarlem is only a 15 minute ride away from Amsterdam, making it a convenient place to visit. It’s also well catered for when it comes to beaches, with Zandvoort and Bloemendaal beaches located close by.
