Pocket Guide: Chennai Guindy Hotels

Running along the southern edge of the Adyar River, Guindy is one of Government Museum’s major districts. At its heart is one of the India’s most charming national parks.

Hotels in Guindy

There’s a good choice of hotels in the Guindy district. You can stay in an affordable and intimate guesthouse with traditional decor and a relaxing garden. Or you can splash out on a luxury hotel with an outdoor pool, a full-service space, a range of dining options and a fitness centre. Guindy has several of Chennai’s five-star hotels, often international chains with a local flavour.

If you’re in Guindy on business, stay in a hotel with conference facilities and business centres.

What to See in Guindy

Head out from your hotel for a day spent in Guindy National Park, one of the few in India right in the middle of a city. The vast park has mile after mile of forested trails where you can wander peacefully and admire the flora and fauna. The Snake Park is one of the highlights, housing a fascinating collection of cobras, vipers and pythons, as well as a large aquarium which is home to turtles and sea snakes.

Children will enjoy a day out in Guindy National Park, thanks to the Children’s Park, where they can see the monkeys, deer and other creatures. If you want to explore the park’s protected area, you’ll have to go with one of the park rangers, who can guide you through the forest past wild animals such as jackals. If you’re a birdwatcher, be on the lookout for more than 150 species that have made the park their home.

If you’re into racing, spend an afternoon at the Madras Race Club, which is just to the west of Guindy National Park. It’s India’s oldest racecourse and has been hosting races since 1777. The grounds include Guindy Lodge, which has a sports hall with tennis, squash and badminton, as well as an entertainment complex with a bar and a restaurant.

The Guindy district is easy to get around by public transport, as it’s served by the metro as well as the railway network. Luxury hotels can arrange private town cars and limos to get your around, too.
