The best area to stay in Graetz is the Altstadt (Old Town), which is the historic heart of the city.

The Altstadt is centred around the Graetzer Dom (Cathedral) and the Marktplatz (Market Square). Its narrow, cobbled streets are lined with beautifully preserved medieval and Baroque buildings, housing a variety of independent shops, traditional taverns, and quality restaurants. It's very walkable, with many of the city's key attractions within easy reach.

For couples, the Altstadt offers a romantic and picturesque setting. You'll find cosy boutique hotels located within historic buildings, and evenings can be spent enjoying dinner at a riverside restaurant overlooking the Graetz River, or taking a stroll across the ancient stone bridge.

Solo travellers will also find the Altstadt appealing due to its central location and the ease of exploring on foot. The area has a friendly setting, and you're never far from a cafe where you can relax and observe city life.

The best time to visit Graetz depends on whether you prefer warm weather and outdoor activities or cooler temperatures and cultural events.

For those who enjoy warm weather and outdoor pursuits, the summer months, particularly July and August, are ideal. The temperatures are pleasant, superb for exploring the Graetz Botanical Garden or taking a boat trip along the Graetz River. Many local festivals and open-air concerts also take place during this time, offering a lively experience. This period is particularly good for families looking to make the most of the city's parks and outdoor attractions.

If you prefer a cooler climate and fewer crowds, late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to October) are excellent choices. During these times, the weather is mild, making it comfortable for sightseeing and visiting museums like the Graetz History Museum without the peak summer rush. The autumn also brings beautiful foliage, especially along the Graetz River banks, which appeals to couples seeking a romantic and scenic getaway.
